Well it looks like the cat's out of the bag at TrekToday again. I can't say I'm not surprised, but I am a little annoyed considering I had hoped to break this story. But what can I say about leaky sources? No matter how much you try to patch them...
Friendly banter aside, TrekWeb can confirm TrekToday's report today about the premise of series five. Note that I can confirm the report (as it's from the same source) but I cannot confirm its validity, even though this source insists his source is reliable.
Yadda yadda... the word is that the new series has been approved by Paramount's Kerry McCluggage, head of television productions and is a sort of 'Birth of the Federation' concept with a 'Braga-esque' twist. What's the twist? Well, apparently a traveler from the 29th century goes back in time to stop the founding of the Federation. This is supposed to relieve the problem that an entire series based on the beginning of the Federation would be pre-ordained.
So there it is. No further confirmation from anyone else, but this is the same source who managed to get the original Troi/Barclay news, the second Troi/Barclay news, and a few others to me before leaking it to someone else who leaked it to TrekToday before he could get further confirmation, so like Christian over at TrekToday pointed out: it's just the latest in a long line of rumors.
