Trouble Casting Trek's Third Regular Vulcan Results in Re-issue of Casting Call

Dept: Series Five

TrekToday reports that Paramount today sent out an amended casting call for the role of 'T'Pau', the female Vulcan who will be the "female lead of the show", according to this latest casting sheet. The new call describes the character thusly:

"She is a beautiful, sensual Science Officer assigned to oversee humanity's progress on board Enterprise. She has great dignity, confidence and strength - she is never timid. Being a true Vulcan she considers humans primitive and irrational, but she develops a respect for Captain Archer and becomes one of his most loyal and trusted crew members."

Over the last couple of weeks, sources have indicated that Marjorie Monaghan, of 'Babylon 5' fame, has been in the running for the role, which is itself still unconfirmed by Paramount. If accurate, this could be a negotiating tactic by Paramount or it could mean that they are truly having difficulty finding the proper actress for the role.

Greetings,

I think this revised casting call is actually better than the first one. Adding "a true Vulcan" clearly shows where we are heading here in terms of a human/vulcan relationship angle in the new show. And let's face it: it has been a while (since TOS, actually) since we saw a proper treatment of this relationship, despite its obvious relevance to Trek history. Hopefully, "Enterprise" will set things straight, also in that respect.

By the way: for all of you hating Berman, check out the Logan interview...

Youve heard this alllll before but Spock was the first Vulcan on a Starship and rewriting the history makes me not want to watch this at all.
A show about Tribbles would have been better.

Will she have wild mood swings, like Spock did in the TOS pilot, when he wigged out on the transporter pad ("Wait a minute!!")? Just curious...

I thought that Paramount and Berman were keeping tight-lipped about the series. In that Casting Call, they appear to have confirmed a number of facts on the series that I doubt they would.

1 The Captain is called Archer (probably the Jason Archer of rumour).

2 The ship will be called Enterprise. I suppose that isn't too much given away...

3 The character is called T'Pau, which, if she is the same T'Pau from Amok Time, would confirm the time period of the show (pre-TOS).

This isn't in keeping with the tight-lippedness that Berman displayed in a recent interview for a British magazine. It also fits in perfectly with source's discriptions of the series, which can be looked at two ways:

1. The sources were correct - which is extremely likely.

2. Paramount is playing us all for fools and is attempting to make the show's ideas as wildly known as possible - unlikely, but Paramount may be running a dis-information campaign, leaking news through Paramount hoping that it would be leaked to the public.

Think about it...

If humanity is primitive and the Vulcans superior, why isn't the captain of the ship a Vulcan? The Vulcans are supposed to be overseeing our progress. If I was overseeing someone I wouldn't let them order me around.
