Marjorie Monaghan Still Running for 'T'Pau' Role in Next 'Trek' ?

Dept: Series Five

According to The Great Link website, at the Chiller Theater convention this weekend (28-29 April), held in East Rutherforf, NJ, former 'Babylon 5' actress Marjorie Monaghan confirmed that while she did audition for a part in the fifth Star Trek series, she won't know 'til next week whether or not she did get the part. The Great Link originally reported that Marjorie was in the running for the part of the Vulcan 'T'Pau' a few weeks ago, only to learn that she wouldn't get the part. That was followed by reports of a renewed casting call for the role of 'T'Pau'. With today's news, it seems that Paramount hasn't had much luck with the renewed casting call. The next 'Star Trek' series, rumored to be titled 'Enterprise', begins shooting next week, on May 8, 2001.

I spoke to her

I was at Chiller this weekend (Sunday to be exact). I asked her if it was true that she had auditioned to for Enterprise. She looked uncomfortable with the question but verified that she did indeed audition and that she does not know if she has it as of yet. From talking to her I got the vibe that she doesnt think she has it. She didn't seem very optomistic about it (or it could be that i was the millionth person to ask her that weekend and she was simply sick of the question.)

Shooting Schedule

Hhm. Two things strike me about the fact that shooting is scheduled to begin next week.

First, with so little time between the wrapping of Voyager and the start of Series V, it would seem that they're rushing things in order to get at least a couple episodes in the can before the potential actors' strike. The looming writers' strike would seem to be less of an issue, since they presumably have the scripts for the first couple of episodes, or at least the pilot episode, already written.

Second, with filming scheduled to start in only one week, wouldn't you think it's about time for Paramount to make an official announcement about the next series, at least including the basic premise and the principle cast members, to finally put some of the rumors to rest?

Take care!

It wouldn't surprise me if the casting directors were having a hard time finding people who were interested in signing up for this turkey.
