It's Official: Paramount Confirms ENTERPRISE Starring Scott Bakula As 'Captain Jonathan Archer' |

Dept: Enterprise
Paramount has finally made it official in a press release from Paramount Network Television: the next 'Star Trek' series will titled 'Enterprise'. The show will star actor Scott Bakula as 'Captain Jonathan (not Jackson, as previously believed) Archer', "a physical and intensely curious captain with a bold personality." Interestingly, this limited press release DOES NOT confirm that the series' premise is, in fact, a prequel; however, if these long-speculated rumors are true, you can bet the rest of it is unless there's a huge curve ball coming.
Bakula comments, "Obviously, I love the genre and am a long-time fan of Star Trek. I am also thrilled to be working on a TV series again with Kerry McCluggage and Garry Hart, a relationship that dates back to 1988 with 'Quantum Leap."
Rick Berman added, "We couldn't be happier, Scott personifies the charm and intelligence that the role calls for."
As of now, this is the FIRST and ONLY official information regarding the fifth 'Star Trek' series, and it appears that the YEARS of speculation were right. If one thing's for sure, Paramount sure can't keep a secret.

Series V

On completion of the cycle, the Earth shall be deemed prepared for First Contact. Series V, a prequel with significant time-travel elements, will complete the cycle.
2005 is the year that will finally reveal the alien intelligence behind the entire ST canon.
For now, the prepared may seek Special Knowledge using two pairs of polarized eyeshades whilst watching Next Generation.
Additionally, Vice President Cheney, a human with Special Knowledge, may reveal certain secrets of the Transporter during tele-vision interviews. In order to access, one must decode by converting audio to mp3 file and monitoring program backwards whilst observing spectral readout.
It is essential that we, the prepared, not upset societal norms before First Contact. If you have contructed a communicator or locator patch, please wear them under your clothing or have them implanted by a trusted surgeon.

SO HARD if the series takes place in the 2390's or 2400's with another Enterprise crew? I will seriously roll over and laugh my ass off if that turns out to be the case with an NCC-1701-F. From what I've heard, it's been 75% prequel, 15% future, and 10% 29th century time-jumping. If Berman says that none of the premises are on the net, then it's leading me to believe it's going to be a "contemporary" (meaning post: TNG movies with a 1701-F) series. If this turns out to be the case, you will hear me laugh from ohio to japan and on back to New York.
It'd be hillarious... it just wouldn't surprise me.

I hope this is true, but something smells fishy here. Based on the timing on this story, this press release came out after 5 PM PDT. You would think Paramount would release this before 5 PM EDT as to get the full effect out of it. Second, it was in the buisness section of Yahoo. When I searched through the entertainment sections on yahoo, msnbc, foxnews and cnn, there was nothing. Third, startrek.com has announced every bit of news on who is working on Series V, yet strangely nothing about the biggest announcement.
Just doesn't add up I guess. At least this time I hope I'm wrong.

I, along with everyone knew that Bakula had the part, big deal. What I want to know is, when and where will this one be? No matter how much talk there is about a prequel, I want proof. I want Paramount to announce the premise, or at the very least keep announcing little bits of info regularly to keep me in suspense. I am no longer interested in fan speculation, I want to either know everything officially, or get official snips of info from Paramount. The speculation is killing the show for me.

Okay, okay, so maybe Ziggy was off a little bit about the odds that Bakula not taking this role. But the fact is, he did, and now we are waiting for the next round of formal annoucements.
So far, I am STILL hoping for a) A post 24th century adventure, b) Rick S. and company to return to the fold and given their old designing jobs back, and c) real fresh blood to the writing team so that we don't get the same ol' same ol' story lines.
While the first two wishes are probably not going to happen, the last one might yet occur. I am certainly excited about the possibilities, but then again, good space opera is still far better than vampire slaying, old world greek mythology, and invisible men any day.
One more into the breech, eh?

About time..

About time we heard something about series V and I have to say I'm thrilled. I'm one of the few long time trek fans that thinks the idea of a prequel show is a good one and has huge potential (although I am willing to admit that yes, I'm saying the IDEA is great in my opinion which says nothing about whether Brana or Berman will be able to pull it off even remotely.) And I think Bakula is great. Never really watched Quantum Leap though the few I saw were good..and I know it had a pretty serious following so maybe it'll bring some new people to Trek. But I loved him in Lord of Illusions.
The way I see it, is he brings alot to the role, whereas other Trek actors have been unknowns..or at least not a-list mainstream until after Trek. Bakula could bring a Shatner like presence to the show.
The one thing that ticks me off is Berman's just lying lying lying for ever and ever that the premise has never been on the internet when its the oldest one going round besides Starfleet Academy. And no matter how much some of you hate the prequel idea..hey, at least it ain't Starfleet Academy.

Scott Bakula as a captain of the Enterprise...I guess/hope it could work. However, I think it all depends on the premise of the show. No matter how good Bakula is, if he's saddled with a ridiculous prequel, he'll be hemmed in by the writing and plotting of a dreaded series...oh well...just my .02 cents....

Come on, place your bets!

Who wants to bet me they waste Scott Bakula's talent by hiring a chick with big jugs after the first couple of seasons, who will become the focus of every episode and be in every promotion up until the finale? Ten to one Brannon "Hackboy" Braga writes his girlfriend Jeri "No Talent" Ryan back into her Seven of Nine role, having her brought back to the twenty second century or something. Oh, and by the way, this just occurred to me. In Endgame, how is Admiral Janeway supposed to get away with her time altering scheme? Shouldn't Captain Braxton and the timeship Relativity catch on to this and stop her, as they have in the past? Or are the producers simply hoping the fanboys won't catch onto this disregard of continuity? Time will tell.....

Although I don't like the prequel idea having Scott Bakula as the captain makes up for a lot, he is a VERY cool actor, the only problem will be watching him on the show and not thinking of him as Sam Beckett. We have seen though in Quantum Leap that he is a good actor (comparable in my mind to Patrick Stewart) in that he doesn't seem fake like Kate Mulgrew does (I have seen her "oh-no im surprised look its earth/human/borg/dead/etc." thing a hundred times too many) although I like Voyager usually if there is one thing i can't stand its that look.I don't see that happening with Bakula. One thing to say...Congrats to him and good luck.

Umm... Official?

If this announcement is so "official", why is it NOT on StarTrek.com, nor Paramount's website, nor UPN.com?
Also I would have expected a bigger announcement, more widely distributed, on places like CNN (both the cable channel, and their website), and other outlets. After all, this is the biggest Trek news since, well, since the Starship Voyager was marooned in the Delta Quadrant. Yet, the only place it's found is here, with a link to a Yahoo site.
Sounds fishy to me, right now...
