Dept: General Star Trek
According to The Digital Bits website, 'Star Trek fans will be happy to learn that Paramount is planning to start releasing episodes of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager [on DVD] by the end of the year. And they've decided to abandon the 2 episodes per disc format they've used for The Original Series. Look for boxed sets of full seasons at a time, similar to what Fox has done with The X-Files" Read the original report here |

In the interests that someone from marketing may actually read these...I have to say Thank God....I hope they do come out. I stopped buying from columbia house cause A) they were VHS and B) They pissed me off.
Hopefully extra features will be included. Those are always nice.

This is good news. I've actually sent 2 e-mails to Paramount corporate about just this. I'm glad to see that they're taking a hint from Fox and releasing them as season sets. I think its better for all involved and an extra disc of bonus features would be a really nice idea too. I'd like to see a few outtakes, bloopers, or behind the scenes productions of the episodes of the various series. I know Paramount when it comes to making DVD's is really skimpy, but it would be a nice touch.

The Motion Picture?

I'm very glad to hear this news. I will be so excited to get the DVDs of The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Heck, even Voyager. And I agree that the fans should thank Paramount for making this decision. I imagine it's rare Paramount hears any praise from Star Trek fans.
I do find it interesting, though, that in their section about upcoming Star Trek DVDs, the Web site failed to mention anything about The Director's Edition of The Motion Picture. I hope that doesn't signal that TDE has run into problems.
Take care!

I'm so glad they're doing this. We should organize a campaign actually thanking TPTB for finally doing this...Well, that won't happen, but it looks like I'll have to start saving for all seven box sets of DS9. Except for the first season of Voyager and the first and second season of TNG, I'll probably get all of the rest.

At last, I can finally collect the 21 DVD's (assuming that 1 DVD per season) instead of 2001 DVD's of TNG, DS9, and VOY! It would save me the trouble of starting to dig up all my ST VOY tapes that I've been recording since 1995!
Besides - DVD Rocks!
