Enterprise Starship Design To Resemble Upside Down Classic? |

Ain't It Cool News reports that the Enterprise design will essentially be like Kirk and Picard's ships, but turned upside down. This is somewhat consistent with designer John Eaves' comments that the ship will resemble the Akira Class (images to the right, left) seen in 'First Contact' and later episodes. The article goes on to mention a "middle" section that will be connected to a saucer section with little or no neck; this contradicts the information from the reliable TrekWeb source weeks ago that the ship will not have a secondary hull. However, it is possible that a design similar to the Akira might appear to have a "middle" or secondary hull when in fact, as with the Akira, it is merely an extension of the primary hull to which the nacelles are attached.
You can reach Ain't It Cool News's article here, and for more captures of the Akira Class you make check out Shiporama here. |

Miranda and Soyuz

If the designers are going for a more retro look, maybe the Enterprise looks more like the Miranda or the Soyuz. Both of those ships have the Akira's catamaran-style construction, but they don't look quite as sleek. What's more, the Soyuz has an extended hull coming out from behind the saucer section making it look even more retro and like a much more logical candidate for a 22nd century design.

Flip NCC1701 upside-down, flatten it,make it have more details in the form of chunky bolted compnentsand what you have is a retro-akira look-like which can look cool as well as retro. Waiting for that all important CGI of the ship before passing any final judgement
