UPN Answers Fan Questions: First Teasers To Begin Airing Shortly

Posted: 15:25:48 on July 09 2001

TrekToday sent fan-submitted questions to UPN's head of marketing, Bob Bouknight. In his answers, Bouknight says that the first teasers for the new show will begin appearing on the network this week or next and that a final decision on the media buy for the first wave of Enterprise promotion will be finalized this week. He also addressed concerns of misleading advertising, saying that while promotional materials certainly shouldn't lie to viewers, sometimes focusing on a B-plot or generalizing an element of an episode for a broader audience is the best way to sell the episode, even if sometimes misleading.

Okay, if this guy thinks the 'Does Jason Alexander want Seven of Nine for her mind, OR HER BODY?' tagline was a good idea then I have little faith in the notion that Enterprise will have better adverts than Voyager did. I understand UPN has to try to find a broad audience, but promising sex and non-stop action in episodes which have little or none of either and are about something else entirely... the young males UPN is courting so obviously - they'll quite likely be disappointed and not come back the next time, and meanwhile the Trekkies get more and more ticked off. It's quite possible to do an inventive advert for an episode like 'Revulsions' or 'Real Life' or 'Resistance' and ensuring the people who watch will have a vague idea of the episode's A-plot and won't leave feeling cheated by UPN's marketing department (as for feeling cheated by the show's writing staff, well, that's another debate entirely...)

When the hell does the uk get 2 see Enterprise anyways? We're not even finished watchin Voyager yet and we have 5 episodes 2 go, and by the way trailers 2 months in advance are a bad idea. The new ship looks way 2 futuristic, the timeline is screwed up, The answer 2 seven of nine ain't wearin a catsuit, but i'll still probably watch it even though i'd rather watch the Enterprise-M in the 25th century, there i said it.

Does anyone recognize the music played during the ENTERPRISE Promos,
could these be snippets of what the series theme will be like?

OPINION POLLS
You will be watching ENTERPRISE because...
It's a 'Star Trek' series after all, I don't care about the producers, actors, or writers!
Scott Bakula. He is a fan-favorite because of his work on 'Quantum Leap'.
Jolene Blalock . Sexploitation be damned, she is hotter than Jeri Ryan!
It's not set in the over-used 24th Century, full of tecnobabble, quantum anomalies or Borg [yet]!
If nothing else, the UPN promos have done it for me!
Who said I will be watching? Berman and Braga will destroy 'Star Trek' with this prequel concept!
