Speaking to Sci-Fi Wire at least night's press event, actor Scott Bakula said "My guy grew up in the system. His dad was an engineer in the project and worked on developing the warp five engine. So he's kind of a brat of the space program." The actor revealed that his 'Captain Archer' will be more akin to 'Kirk' than 'Picard', adding, "He's a little bit brash. He's a little bit in people's faces. He doesn't like being told what to do per se. He's a great captain, I think. But he's going to make some mistakes. He's very human. He's more similar to Kirk than to Picard. ... It's been a blast. I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd be standing toe to toe with a Klingon screaming in my face and spitting all over me."
Co-creator/executive producer Rick Berman also confirmed that he has been more involved in the writing process than on the previous 'Trek' series, saying that working with co-creator/executive producer Brannon Braga has been very enjoyable.
Finally, actor John Billingsley spoke extensively to Sci-Fi Wire about his role, 'Doctor Phlox': "I've got three prosthetic pieces: I've got a forehead, ears and a chin, and all of that is painted over in a kind of burnt sienna and a mottled brown. So it's a sort of a striated and mottled complexion I have. And I have giant blue eyes. And my hair is pretty much my own, with one little piece that sort of augments it. ... My own sense of it is that [he's from] a planet of hyper-intellectual philosophers who have become so wedded to their intellects that they've sort of decided to in effect become monastic and retreat from the universe. And I'm one of the few who actually considers it valuable to go out and dig around. I'm as much an anthropologist as I am a physician. ... I was part of the Vulcan Interspecies Medical Exchange Program. ... I am on Earth. The Vulcans have presumably sent me there to watch over things a bit on the medical side. When the crisis erupts that precipitates the action in the first episode, I'm pressed into service as the ship's physician."
Sci-Fi's report can be found here and their own report of the set tour can be found here.
Meanwhile, Zap2it's report includes an interesting quote from Rick Berman concerning the scoring of the new series, indicating it may break from traditional orchestration: "We're hopefully going to be using a little bit more contemporary kind of music. It's not all of a sudden that the show is going to be scored with electric guitars. It's going to be a little hipper, I think." |

I like all 4 of the Star Treks and enjoy each of them. While there are some epsiodes i could not stand I still enjoyed the series. Each Star Trek has it's bad epsiodes and in some cases bad seasson but this means very little in the long run because for every bad seasson there was a brillient one. I know some people cant stand TOS because of its bad sets but you really have to look past that to see its charm TOS started the dream and we sholud be greateful to it. The TOS cast and sets got better in the films and like many people have pointed it out TOS carried Star Trek by itself for 20 odd years and it was so popular that a new series was made - TNG. Now the first two seassons of TNG were just remakes of TOS but that was all Stat Trek knew. After seasson three things started to pick up and it became great and gave us another crew and ship to love again TNG carried Trek beifself for a while and made it more popular and brought us DS9. DS9 is the one that I say in a way stood true to Genes dream Humans out on the Finel Frontier bringing peace to a helpless world trying to bring a better future ok they fought one big war but peace is always was challenged and in the end they did bring peace. Now I know many people consider Voyager to be the worest Trek and that is up to you but like the others it give us something. The creators wanted to try something different a Ship cut off from all contact from the Federation now dont get me wrong I loved Voyager but I dont think the Delta Quandent story was done as good as it could have been in 7 years they must have found more then 2 planets they considered staying on, they MUST have met kind and good aliens who where not always after something. But again you have to look deep to see Voyagers charm like you do with TOS as they are both hard to understand once you get past some of the bad storys and the such you can feel a contection to these crews like you know them. Each series brought us a crew to love and over the years with each one we have obversly gotten our faveraties but please remember that we all have our own tastes after all we are all united as Star Trek fans which is what i consider myself not TOS, TNG, DS9, or Voy but a Star Trek fan that is what we all are. And I hope that all of you will treat Enterprise with some respect and give it a least a seasson to see if it works which from what I have read it will.

hmm.. you call yourselves trek fans? Im sure you think Voyager is the one and only Star Trek..! TOS= The Original Series.. ie THE ORIGINAL SERIES.. Not Voyager.. Not DS9.. NOT TNG (even though TNG is the best series)
Remember, without TOS there would be no Voyager. Rememeber, without the hugely successfuly and popular TNG there would be no Voyager.. hmm maybe that is the *one* thing bad about TNG.. it spawned the "devil child" aka Voyager.
I just don't know how people can like Voyager.. I've never been able to get through a whole episode.. got close once, but... :)

Voyager Best Vessel

In my view I think Voyager was the best and most technologically advance vessel in all Star Trek series and movies even surpasing the Enterprise E as well. All that it has been threw and it has always pulled through even in toughest situations as temporal armageddon, borg conflicts,Successfully finally destroying all evil borg not including the ones that where separated from the hive mind the unimatrix zero thing. I admit to not seeing all the TNG episodes hell I don't even know what TOS stands for. But I have seen alot of the TNG series and all its movies they have never been in such situations as Voyager.
So I think if the was a "fight" between Voyager and Enterprise E, with all there orginal crewmen.Voyager would win with all the information they gathered from the delta quadrent and of course there awsome Armor Technology and Transphasek torpedo's and of course Seven of Nine they would easilly defeat the Enterprise with takeing some heaven damage thought but ultimatley winning.
What are all of your thoughts?

"Give me 'Captain Blood'!" - Gene Roddenberry, 1966.
Nothing DATES a show more than the introduction of a "hipper" soundtrack (see 70s cop shows).

The Matrix Soundtrack

Sci-Fi and classical music have had a long and fruitful relationship. Some of the greatest classical pieces of the late 20th century came from Sci-Fi.
Who can forget the opening theme from 2001, or the beautiful orchestrations of John Williams.
However, times are a changin'. And despite my love of the classical stuff, I have to admit that one of my favorite Sci-Fi soundtracks of all time is that of The Matrix. The Techno-Metal-Industrial-Bang your head against the wall kind of music used for that film is awesome. Just perfect for that film.
Maybe a change of pace (musically speaking) would do wonders for the Star Trek franchise. I know that part of the reason The Matrix was so successful was because of its soundtrack.

As a player myself, I wish they would put some wailing metal riffs here and there. I'm tired of "wallpaper music" so let's push the dramatic limits and do something for once with the music. This is a smart move on Rick's part.
Phlox sounds cool, and Billingsley sounds like he's really digging the role. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be a Neelix.
So, far, everything is pointing to this series being the best thing to happen to Trek in a long time. Sure, many of us may have groaned about the concept at first, but I sense a level of excitement that I don't recall with either DS9 or Voyager. And the willingness, at least in comments, to innovate somewhat is also a breath of fresh air badly needed.
