UPN began its on-air advertising campaign for ENTERPRISE tonight during the rerun of the 'Voyager' episode "Flesh and Blood." Two ads, both beginning with shots of the Saturn V launch and pictures of astronauts including John Glenn are backed by contemporary-sounding music -- almost light rock and roll -- and include all sorts of shots from the completed "Broken Bow" pilot episode.
Section 31 has received the video and has it posted for download. It is MPEG format and just over 1 MB. The video is copyright © 2001 Paramount Pictures. All rights reserved.
TrekWeb Mirror 1 and TrekWeb Mirror 2 and TrekWeb Mirror 3 are donated once again by visitor Roger Lim.
TrekWeb Mirror 4 is being donated once again by Arne Voightmann's Voyager-Delta web site.
Section 31 has the file zipped here, and a Real Media version here thanks to Trekenterprise.com.
German site Treknews.de has the file here.
Enterprise-Center has posted a mirror of the RealMedia version here.
Italian 'Trek' site Starfleet.it has mirrored the video here.
SyfyPoral is offering a mirror here.
Enterprise Online has digitized many still photos from the advertisements, revealing many of the visuals that we've been waiting on for months now.

Scott Bakula as Captain Jonathan Archer in contemporary-looking styles, including a baseball cap with "NX-01" across the front.

Jolene Blalock as the Vulcan T'Pol, in the first clear shot of Trek's newest resident on logic.

General Optimism

If the level of optimism expressed here over the trailer has ANY correlation to the show's quality, then we should have a good seven years!
I think it was a very Hollywood-ish trailer, one that reminded me of many other movies/TV trailers.
Music, uniforms, sex and whatever else aside, I'm waiting 'till Sep. to see if the show presents good Sci-Fi along with the window dressing.

Archer kissing T'pol

Isn't it obvious to any of you that Archer is kissing T'pol in this promo? I see that TrekWeb lists the woman as "unknown".
Let's just hope this isn't some female PonFar we're seeing in the first episode.
And yes... I personally am quite stoked by this promo. The contemporary music fit just nicely (though I have to wonder if it's just there because a score is not done yet - I actually hope they stick with contemporary music for the most part).

Something I just thought of is kind of cool and kind of scary. The uniforms look pretty easy for fans to make. I DO like the uniforms, even though they look like something a fan came up with in his spare time.

Some of us really need to get lives!

OK, I have sat back and read all I can! I mean what the hell is wrong with some of you people? I can not even beleive that someone had the nerve to say they looked up something in the Tech Manuel to verify what Archer said about Neptune. Give me a freaking break!
First off the Tech Manuel is NOT canon. I have never read it myself, and frankly don't plan to, but nonetheless I am very sure that it has it's flaws. We are talking about a made up, non-fact, never gonna happen in real life, TV show. For the love of Bob and his three sisters will some of you please get a freaking grip on reality?!?
I thought the clip was great. It didn't show too much and it didn't show too little. A great man once said, "Some people lose their faith because God shows them too little and some because God shows them too much". How true of Star Trek fans. We complain when we get too little and complain when we get too much. We will ever be satisfied? I doubt it!
I have never been to a convention and have never worn a Trek uniform. However I have worn the United States Air Force uniform. I am 27 and there is not an episode of Star Trek that I have not seen. I grew up with church and Trek, so I feel I have the right to speak my peace and then I will allow the masses to tear into me.
I love Star Trek and always will! Yes, there have been bad episodes and in some cases bad seasons. However for the better part of 35 years we have seen great story telling and had some great memories. For me the good has always outwayed the bad.
I for one am tired of the B & B bashing. Trek had plenty of bad days way before B & B took over. Anyone remember ST:TMP and the 1st season of TNG?
In any case, I am just glad that we have another series coming and another movie on the horizon. For all those that say Paramount cares nothing about the fans I will only ask you to ask yourself one question. If they didn't care why bother with a new show? Why bother with a new movies? You may say it is the money, but the Bond movies aren't about money anymore. Niether are the Star Wars movies. After a while the money has been made and the rest is just icing on the cake. I mean Lucas made Episode One with his own money. He didn't do it for the money he did it for us!
One day however Paramount will get tired of the fans moaning and groaning and the day will come when we will have no more new Trek. I for one do not long for that day and I am sure that all the true Trek fans don't either.
Quit complaning about what you are not seeing and start being greatful for what you do see. I don't care if we saw Orion girls in the preview or not. I don't care if the Klingon speaks a word of English or not. I don't even care if the ship travels at the right speed or not. It is a freaking TV show and it is not real!!!!
The day we can get our own REAL history right then we can worry about made up history.
For all those that love Star Trek for the right reasons I say thank you. For all those that love it just so you can hate it..... I say simply as Shatner once did.... GET A LIFE!

frog-tongued blue go-go chick... ICK!

When I heard the rumor that we would see green Orion animal women dancers, my excitement level rocketed, not only because they would have been sexy like the original in the Cage, but because of the continuity and acknowledgement of the original series pilot. What a neat thing to tie it in with The Cage! But, no such luck. They missed a gem of an opportunity there.
Instead, we see some chick eating bugs with a lizard-like tongue, who is ugly as sin and a rip-off of the shape-changing, naked-except-for-scales blue-skinned character in the X-Men movie. (at least SHE looked good!) What, is her face white from the jaw up, but blue everywhere else? The video-capture makes it hard to tell but it sure isn't attractive so far.
I know it's probably just a scene that lasts a few seconds, but I guess I got too excited over what they could have done with it. Maybe we'll see some Orion women during the show.
Anyway, the rest of the shots are exciting, and T'Pol is looking good. I like the cap that Archer wears. Pike had a cap too, on the table in his quarters.
I am generally positive about the show. I thought at first that the ship looked too much like Kirk's to be 100 years earlier, but there were over 75 years between TOS movies and TNG, and the differences were only cosmetic, with some advances. But not as many as you'd think.
Also, they have made good points about the Klingons. We first saw ridge-headed Klingons in ST:TMP and that was only two and a half years after Kirk's first five year mission (of which we saw 3 on TOS).

I downloaded the whole song, and just for fun I noticed one of the lines...
"If I could turn back time, I'll go wherever you will go..."
Given the idea of "turning back time" is cliched in love songs, nevertheless, I thought it was a cool thing seeing as how Enterprise will have a time travel backstory.

There is absolutely nothing in this promo to get excited about...
There is absolutely nothing in this promo to get upset about...
The only remarkable thing about this "teaser" is how little it teases...
Sort of like receiving a letter from the post office informing you that you're going to receive a letter tomorrow. OK, I'll be expecting it. Just as I already knew to expect Enterprise this September.
And just like I expect to receive my mail but still don't know if it is a bill from the IRS or a real winner's check from Publishers' Clearing House. I am decidedly indifferent about this promo in neither a positive nor negative way. Whether that is good or bad, I have no idea, so I'm just going to dismiss it and wait for the real thing to arrive...

6 minutes to Nepune ... No problem

A round trip to Neptune is around 5.6 billion miles. According to the TNG Technical Manual, Warp 4 is 102 times the speed of light. At that speed you would go 6.84 billion miles in 6 minutes. The top speed of the NX-01 is supposed to be Warp 5.

Music's great...and as someone wrote before, quite inspiring in an adventerous kind of way.
The hat and informal chothing...
...I could go either way...
"Let's go..." Okay, but Bakula could do better...(or his script writers). I'll have to wait and see in what context he says it...and maybe my the time of the premeier...I'll forget I wrote this.
Over all...Enterprise is going to be very...how shall I put it...Enterprising....

"Neptune and back in six minutes.."...
Now, maybe I'm just not remembering this right, but didn't our favorite little snot Wesley Crusher state that the Enterprise-D was still 21 minutes away from Earth in the "Best of Both Worlds Part 2" towards the end of the ep? If I remember correctly.. the Enterprise-D was passing Saturn......
So that little NX-01 must really have some kick to it... or they're talking Warp Speed (which makes more sense..).. but I thought starships couldn't travel at warp through a solar system......
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
And if you look closely enough you can see the arm patches on the leather "away team" jackets... or maybe we should be using the phrase "landing party"?
Does anyone else think that might be Phlox right behind Tucker entering the alien bar?!
I agree with some of the posts here.. great trailer.. but the show remains to be seen. I'll hold my opinion until then. However, the trailer and all this hype have done their jobs well - I can't wait 'til September 26. I REALLY hope this show is as good as it looks... there is a TON of potential here...

look good, I think ...

Damn it! Just when I think I've had my fill of Trek, along comes word of a new series or movie to get me excited again.
As far as the Enterprise trailer, I could go either way -- it's snazzy all right, but in that generic Voyager way. Could be cheesy, could be lots of fun. Hard to tell. Still, the big question to me is can the writers sustain the momentum and freshness of the first episodes? Or is grafting the same old storylines onto a new series the only way they know how to keep a show new and exciting? Hopefully they are more willing to explore and develop the characters than they have been.
Personally, I'd give anything to let Joss Whedon produce a Trek series. He knows how to keep a show interesting throughout it's run.

Will the Klingon speak English??

One thing I know I am VERY scared about is that the Trek people will continue the awful trend of having all aliens speak perfect english. Well, by my reckoning, the universal translator is many years away, so if that Klingon speaks ONE word of English, much less perfect english sentences and phrases, I will puke.
I'm still wretching over the fact that the first Vulcan stepped off his ship in ST:FC and said "Live Long and Prosper" in f-cking ENGLISH!
GAG!

Whiner-boy speaks out
By Sub-Odeon
(subodeon@qwest.net) at 15:52:09 on July 19
URL: | User Info

Well, as one who gladly embraces his role as a "whiner-boy" I have a few items to add to the general uproar over this trailer.
1st: it is indeed a very hot looking trailer. If the show is anything like the trailer implies, then we're in for a fun ride wherein things are much more swashbuckling and cavalier than in the TNG era. Not bound by the stuffy Starfleet or Federation rules, it seems Archer and Co. will be having a lot more genuine FUN in this series. As noted by many others, that genuine awe for space travel and warp speed is thick in the air.
2nd: we must be careful though. Hollywood is good at making trailers that wow us, and then the film falls flat. TV is the same. So as hot as this thing looks now, I am bridling my want to get overly hyped with a sense of caution. I want this show to EARN my praise. I will not just dole it out because it's Star Trek.
3rd: as stated by others, the show seems to be making a real case for seperation from the other Trek franchises. Unless you know better, there is very little in that promo to even suggest that it's Star Trek at all. This could be a very good thing in that it might broaden the scope and fan base to include more mainstream viewers. Where TNG managed a big coup by going mainstream and liberating Trek from 'geek' status, DS9 and then especially Voyager seemed to throw Trek back in the geek closet. ENTERPRISE looks to be reaching for a very contemporary look and feel, with people, settings, and music even. What's more, this show is obviously going to be about Earth in many ways. No Federation yet. Just us damned illogical and free-spirited humans cut loose into the Galaxy to do our thing.
4th: why nudity? I had hoped we could try and get away from the eyecandy thing in this show. 7 of 9 was such an obvious reach for the wood-sporting quotient amongst the male viewership. Hey, while we're at it, let's have a little parity and have Archer get nude too. Surely the ladies would love to see Scott Bakula 'take it off'. Otherwise, T'Pol showing skin is dumb. Yes, the actress has a good body. But Hollywood won't let you be an actress these days unless you have a good body, so the nudity thing is just stupid.
5th: minor complaint about blurb. Uhhh, out of the 'galaxy'? Should have read that as out of the solar system. Somebody didn't do their job on that one. Ugh. I hate it when easily fixed mistakes like that happen!
6th: I still think the plot of returning a Klingon to Quo-nos is questionable. After all, just how far away is the border of the Klingon Empire anyway? To say nothing of Quo'nos?? And at a max of Warp 5, it should take the NX-01 several MONTHS to get there, if not longer. I hate it how Trek writers disregard their own rules. I about threw up when Picard and the NCC-1701-E, already on the Romulan Neutral Zone, hear about the attack of the Borg in ST:FC and then conveniently cross several hundred to several thousand light-years and zoom into the heart of the battle. BLEAH! Warp drive doesn't go THAT fast, guys.
Anyway, pleased with the trailer but still guarded. I've been burned way too many times by interesting or exciting trailers to ever make up my mind beforehand.
Oh yeah, I still think the design for the NX-01 sucks rocks. A ripoff of the Akira. Somebody at Paramount must really be infatuated with that general design to push that one through Ick!

What's the fuss about T'pol

Internet is ablaze with T'pol nude scene and that enterprise would show-case nudeness, sex and swearing. It was just a minor scene in which she is taking off her shirt and you just got a glimpse of her partially exposed back and nothing else. We have much more sizlers shows out there.
On the whole the trailer is very well executed. The uniforms as i said before look cool and I am impressed as whole with the way Enterprise is shaping off

Even though it all depends on how god the characters and stories are written we might have a good concept here, what I would like to see and what I think might be neccesary for this series to survive are arced and planned stories. I don´t want shows where we forget what has have happened in the previous episode and It´s of to a new adventure the next week (Stargate sg-1 has done arced shows well).
I´m glad Braga & Berman have also written the first and second episode after the pilot, that hopefully gives the other writers a chance to get a feel for what their after.

But then again, so aren't most Voyager two parters when condensed into a 30 second ad. I refuse to go so far as to say Berman and Braga are getting it right when this ad merely confirms that Robert Blackman, Herman Zimmerman, Michael Westmore, Foundation Imaging et al. are doing their jobs as well as they always have. We can gush all we like about how it looks exciting, expensive, sensual or fun, but until the story airs no one can have a truly informed opinion that takes into account the acting, the script and the direction - any advertising (especially from UPN) will hardly give a well-balanced impression of any of these. So all I can honestly say is, "Great ad, nice sets."

Well, this preview is pretty impressive. And as someone mentioned, all may not be lost with the uniforms, it looks like Tucker has on an away team jacket when he walks into that bar.
It seems obvious that it might be difficult to associate the show with "Star Trek", but I guess the costumes and pointed ears generally give it away.
In any case, I think this show is definitely going to rock... the next big thing is the first FX shots, sure to come out in a month or so... or earlier, who knows...

...and I could be wrong. I'll have to see the show and the characters before I pass final judgement, but it looks like Berman and Braga have something really good here.
By giving it a more contemporary look and feel it will be more accessible to the casual viewer. By making a prequel the viewer doesn't feel that they have to be intimately familiar with the years and hundreds of hours of backstory that exists with the other incarnations.
As for what was actually shown the best thing is that the sheer joy of space travel seems to be back. Archer and the gang seem awed and exicited by the ruch of it all. That seems evident even from these snippets...and I have to admit it's contageous. For Picard and the rest...while they had their moments it often seemed that it was more a job than an adventure that they were truly fortunate to be a part of.
I'm liking this show more and more every day.

But from watching this clip alone could you tell this is Star Trek? I figure only if you notice the vulcan ears whick are on-screen for may 1.5 seconds total. Sure, "Enterprise" may help some, but I would'nt get the Star Trek impression from this ad... I don't know if that's good or bad. I mean, without Star Trek, one might just equate it to another run-of-the-mill UPN sci-fi series. (7 Days, Level 9, Nowhere Man, Special Unit 2, that lost souls hospital, Mercy Point, Sentinel, am I mixing up any of these with WB?)

I must say...when I first heard that Enterprise was to be a prequel, I panicked. Then the Paramount team blew me away with their concept and casting.
I was concerned about Enterprise, then I was pleasantly shocked to open my TV Guide and see the retro, though sleek and badass, design of the new NX-01.
I was a little worried when Berman said that the music would be a little more contemporary....but when I saw this promo... I'm ecstatic about it. The music is awesome and I hope they keep up the trend as far as the type and sound of the music. I think it's great to see the captain in his NX-01 baseball cap like present day Naval commanders. The sexy shots of T'Pol and the butterfly woman were tantalizing.
I definetly think that the Berman/Braga team have pulled it off. There are those that would argue that this show may not be holding true to Gene's vision. However, if they were to look at what work was done while Gene was alive, and try to guess from that the direction he would want it to go, we would only get what Berman's interpretation of Gene's wishes were. Unfortunately, Gene is gone, and for this to work, Berman has to take Star Trek, and make it his own. That means giving the general audience (not just Trekkies) what he thinks they want to see.
I'm behind this, 100%!!!

It looks like there's going to be away team jackets, leather too judging from the bit with what looks like Tucker entering the alien bar.
The more I see the uniforms, the more I like them.
Also, the phase pistols (if that's what it was in the shot (with snow?)) look pretty cheesy at first glance, I'm sure it's just because it went by so quickly.

Excitement Abound!

Okay, okay, UNCLE already!!
For the past few months, I had been excited by the prospect of a new TREK series that would recapture the excitement that had bleed away over the last years. Although I felt a bit disappointed by the direction that the powers that be chose, I still felt a need to be fair to the new show.
Now that I have seen the first real footage and text of "Broken Bow" from the 30 second teaser, I am now a LOT more optimistic that Berman/Braga might actually be onto something here.
To the point - Enterprise looks like it is going to be far more accessible to the 21st century TREK fan than any previous version since The Next Generation.
Spoilers aside, what makes Enterprise work for me is the more contemporary feel of the show. In the past, Star Trek was really about 20th Century man in a 23rd Century environment. It had to be that way as a real world treatment would be inaccessible to the viewers of today. Could you imagine watching a western if the people involved ACTUALLY acted like 19th Century people? You would not be able to relate or show any real empathy for the characters involved. With Enterprise, all of that is about to change.
Here's hoping that the producers can deliver the writing and the soul that was decidedly missing from Voyager, sporadic in Deep Space Nine, and more present than not on The Next Generation.
One more word about the so-called sexy scenes with T'Pol: I personally could take them or leave them, but if they move the story forward, then fine. Audience share is going to determine the length of the series, not to mention the production values budget, so if male audience members tune in to see some hint of flesh from the actress Jolene, then that is a small price to pay.
Now *I* am being the cynical one.. ::smirk::

That looked fantatsic! Man, I can't wait. I've wanted to see stories from this part of Trek history ever since I was a kid!
All I ever said against it was I wished the ship didn't have a disk. I can live with it. If that makes me a "whiner boy," I' won't lose any sleep over it.

Am I going to have to sit through all two hours of "Flesh and Blood" to see 30 seconds of the next show?

Looks cool to me! Let the malcontent whiner-boys drone on! I'm looking forward to this show! Hope we see more of Earth in "Enterprise" than we've seen in the four previous Trek shows.
