Jolene Blalock Says She'll Be Doing Vulcan "Firsts"

Dept: Enterprise | www.stenterprise.com

The Los Angeles UPN affiliate, UPN 13, has aired a second segment on ENTERPRISE. Mostly comprised of footage from the set already seen in previous segments, this new piece includes interviews with actors Scott Bakula and Jolene Blalock, who reveal that they "grew up" with Kirk, Spock, McCoy and that their new series stays true to TOS.

Blalock adds some interesting new info, saying that her character, T'Pol, will be performing the "first" Vulcan neck pinch and the mind-meld. Whether Jolene is simply referring to the first time humans observe these acts or that no Vulcan has ever performed them before is ambiguous.

The clip also shows an amusing moment with Bakula, who holds a clipping of the new Enterprise NX-01 from USA Today and says "that looks to be my ship...", indicating that he has yet to see it finished on screen.

The clip does not contain much new footage, but should you wish to download it, it is zipped and available here. Thanks to 'TJ' for the video.

Pon'Farr

Well, I just saw that Rolsen already mentioned this, but if you aren't surfing the replies, note that Saavik said that Pon Farr only happens to males in Star Trek 3.

Pon farr, question.
By Sankoni () at 02:12:40 on July 20

I was thinking about T'Pol and her imminent pon farr and a few questions popped into my mind, maybe someone can answer them.

Besides the three episodes:
"Amok Time" (TOS)
"Blood Fever" (VGR)
"Body and Soul" (VGR)
Are there any other episodes that deal with the pon farr? Or maybe, an episode or two where an off-handed remark regarding the pon farr has been spoken? Maybe in TNG or in DS9?

I am asking this because I don't think I have ever heard of how the pon farr affects females. Do they even go through the pon farr? Does it happen every seven years like the males?

In "Amok Time", while Spock is going through the pon farr, his betrothed, T'Pring seems relatively unaffected. This raises the question of whether or not females are affected by the pon farr at all. If they are, do they go through it during the same time as their mates do? If not then maybe with time a Vulcan couple grows in sync with each other.

That could help explain the Tuvok discrepency. You remember that according to "Ex Post Facto" (VGR), which is set in the year 2371, Tuvok had gone through the pon farr 67 years prior to that episode. That means he went through the pon farr in the year 2304 the same year he married T'Pel.

Since the pon farr happens every 7 years, then Tuvok should have experienced his next pon farr in the year 2374 (That should have been some time in the late 4th or early 5th season); but instead he went through the pon farr in the year 2377 (during the early 7th season). That's 3 years too late, unless there's any truth to the "growing in sync with his mate" theory.

Also, does the pon farr cycle have to be exactly 7 years long? Could it not be 7 years plus or minus a few months. (Human females, for example, go through a 28 day cycle, but it's not ALWAYS 28 days; it could range anywhere from 20-40 days). That could be another possible explanation for the Tuvok discrepency.

Now don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to see T'Pol going through the pon farr; but maybe it's different for females. (Just look at Humans, male and female Humans have vastly different reproductive cycles.) Maybe females aren't affected by the pon farr at all, or maybe they go through a much milder or even stronger pon farr.

Of course, since Braga is one of the people running the show, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Vulcan females go through a pon farr on an annual, or even monthly basis.
(Kinda' like Dark Angel, only this won't be boring)

Any answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated.

actually, i think in the TOS episode "dagger of the mind", Spock mentioned that he was about to perform the first vulcan to human mind meld.

If you notice the first time Bakula comes on screen, the caption says "Sub-Commander T'Pol". You'd think they'd catch that.

Pon Farr

Maybe Blalock was refering to the first time we're ever going to see a female go through the Pon Farr (B'Elanna doesn't count).

that they're talking relative to the time frame of the other shows. How Bakula says he's the "first" captain, etc.

You will be watching ENTERPRISE because...
It's a 'Star Trek' series after all, I don't care about the producers, actors, or writers!
Scott Bakula. He is a fan-favorite because of his work on 'Quantum Leap'.
Jolene Blalock . Sexploitation be damned, she is hotter than Jeri Ryan!
It's not set in the over-used 24th Century, full of tecnobabble, quantum anomalies or Borg [yet]!
If nothing else, the UPN promos have done it for me!
Who said I will be watching? Berman and Braga will destroy 'Star Trek' with this prequel concept!
