Variety reports that action director Stuart Baird has signed on to direct the tenth 'Star Trek' feature. Baird's most recent projects include 'U.S. Marshals' (1998) and 'Executive Decision' (1996) as well as an executive producer role on 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' (2001). Baird comes from a an editorial background, having been involved in many films directed by actioner Richard Donner, most notably 'Superman' (1978), 'Lethal Weapon' (1987), 'Lethal Weapon 2' (1989) and 'Maverick' (1994). He also served as editor on the films 'Tango & Cash' (1989), 'Outland' (1981), 'Superman II' (1980), and 'The Omen' (1976). Baird was nominated for Academy Awards for his editing work on 'Superman' and later on 'Gorillas In The Mist'.

Variety reports that the project has yet to be officially greenlighted by Paramount; however, production is expected to begin in October. This marks the first time that a 'Next Generation' film will be directed by an individual from outside the franchise.

ENTERPRISE joins the ranks of previous TREK series by trying hand at comedy in UNEXPECTED; but how did it meet your expectations?
9-10: An elite or classic, like "The Trouble With Tribbles"
7-8: Possessed shades of perfection
5-6: But a middling in the shadow of greatness
3-4: Merely a taste of medocrity
1-2: The dregs of the universe, like "Let He Who Is Without Sin..." and "Spock's Brain"
