Vaughn Armstrong's "Broken Bow" Character Revealed and It Isn't a Klingon (UPDATE: Admiral's Uniform Photo Available) |

Enterprise UK attended the 'Voyager: The Return' Convention this weekend in England and will have a full report of the event including photos and fan-submitted questions put to the guests by the web site.
In the mean time, Neil over at Enterprise UK sends along word that veteran 'Trek' guest actor Vaughn Armstrong revealed that he plays 'Admiral Forrest' in the ENTERPRISE pilot episode, "Broken Bow". It was previously rumored that Armstrong played the part of the crash-landed Klingon pilot, but the actor says he is relieved to finally have played a human on 'Star Trek'.
UPDATE: Enterprise UK has scanned the image Vaughn Armstrong as Admiral Forrest, named to honor the late DeForrest Kelley. As you can see from the photo, the Admiral's uniform seems to incorporate a 20th century shirt and tie underneath the jumpsuit, which has three cuff bands in the colors of gold, red, and teal. The photo quality doesn't get much better, but it does get bigger if you surf on over to Enterprise UK.

If people in the future dont have enough sense to do away with the nuces we have to out around out neck for the sake of being PC then what have we accomplished.
I find it weird that people are putting so much thought into the Uniforms. Is this what Trek has become?

Personally I consider the collar and tie a barely modified remake of a collar and chain--to remind those in corporate America that, if needed, their masters DO indeed have a leash attached to them. I remember reading that the tie's original function was that of an ascot or a bib--to catch food and schmutz before it hit a gentleman's infrequently washed shirt.
Ties in 150 years? Well if they'll be anywhere it will be on military dress uniforms. In the Trek backstory, the chaos of the 21st century could more than explain for the grinding halt of the development of fashion.
What I will say is that you can bet it was discussed. In that respect, even though Berman and Braga are constantly vilified, they show a heck of a lot more concern for the world of Star Trek than, oh, say, William Shatner when he walked onto the bridge set and yelled "action" while wearing a pair of blue jeans and a T-shirt that said "go climb a rock." Ug.
Anybody still want Kirk back after being reminded of that?

Finally, some uniforms that don't look like puke!

The original ST:TOS uniforms always bothered me because they looked like they were done on the cheap. The ST:TMP uniforms looked even worse because they were clingy and stretchy and bore zero resemblance to the TOS uniforms. Thank god someone grew a brain and drew up some REAL uniforms for ST:II through ST:VI because they looked the best of all the motion picture outfits.
But then TNG came along and the same idiot who did the uniforms for ST:TMP is back in charge! Or so it seems. Ugly, clingy pajama-style uniforms that are silly and awful! Not until Picard's 'jacket' style uniform a few seasons later did TNG approach anything as cool as the ST:II thru ST:VI unis. DS9 uniforms (both versions) didn't look too bad, but they didn't look too good either.
At last, with ENTERPRISE, we're seeing some uniforms that really look like uniforms! With all that Enterprise looks like it may get wrong, at least the unis are shaping up nicely. Closer to real military outfits than just about anything since the ST:II red jacket unis.
As for the complaints about ties, you should go back and look at some b&w photos from 1850 or thereabouts. The tie, though a tad different from the style we wear today, is alive and well. As a matter of fact, the tie dates back even more than that. It's one of those timeless icons of western industrial civilization, and I am very sure ties will still be around, more or less, 150 years from now. Especially since the modern media culture is already manifesting itself in a recycling and a recombining of fashion styles from different periods. In 150 years it probably will be even more so.
Anyway, I hate the look of the NX-01, but the uniforms at least look great so far!

Does it seem to anyone else that this picture is doctored?? The shoulder stripes should not stop halfway up like they do in this pic. It looks to me like it could possiblly be a doctor... I like how the uniform looks, but I'm still a bit skeptical.

I personally Like the look of the new uniform. IT does go back to the more NAVY type dress. And I like that Since Many things in trek tie more to the NAVY than any other armed sevice. I have always wanted to see a uniform like this. I was really hopeing that todays Navy would change to a uniform like this one. It would really be cool. Enterprise has really gotten my hopes up. IT will be hard comming from a long line of Ds9's and Voyager's To grabs the peoples attention once again. But Im hopeing that it revives trek. To a more glorious state. Personally I think paramount should Ditch the deadley Doubble of B & B but thats one holograms openion. thank you for your time.

i like the throwbacks to TOS and the tribute to the cast members of TOS. i like the uniform, it has a cool navy look to it. and i must say that admiral uniforms in trek have usually been stupid looking and this is a nice change.

It made me laugh when I first saw it. I thought. "how absolutly retro, how absolutly out of sync." Then I thought, "O.K., at least my tie collection will outlive me." I don't know how comforting that is, but it sure makes me laugh.

A couple of comments for what it's worth. I like how Enterprise is shaping up over all but if I could suggest two things, first the weather. Every trek series for the most part has been fortunate enough to have great weather on almost every planet. How about a little diversity in planetary weather and atmospheres requiring different clothing, jackets, sweaters, maybe even a spacesuit now and then. Second, rock music, wouldn't it be cool if say Archer was a fan of 20th century rock/pop, just like people today are fans of clsssical music. Now that would be cool, having Archer playing Elvis, Boston or even Sinatra in his quarters.

About these uniforms......

I am looking forward to this show big time, Everything I have seen, heard or read about it has me excited...well almost everything. These new uniforms are ugly. I like the jumpsuit idea but think they should have gone with a different color, Khaki or light brown would have given the uniforms more definition while still retaining the NASA look they were going for. I don't like the stripes on the shoulders that indicate the branch, I would have preferred that they wear some type of colored shirt underneath the jumpsuit indicating command, science and so on. Colored shirts have been prevalent in all Star Trek shows dating back to TOS so it would not be unusual to have had it here. I haven't seen the sleeves yet but instead of the rank pips/squares I though they should have used the old naval armband ranks except do it more accurately than they did in TOS or the motion picture, 4 stripes for captain, 3 for commander, 1 thin and 2 solid for Lt. commander etc. Lastly I think that since they have established that this is indeed starfleet, the classic "delta" emblem that is on the TOS-cage uniforms should appear on the chest just as it does in all of the following shows, remember, that emblem or some form of it has been a part of starfleet uniforms since the beginning, some form of it should on the Enterprise uniforms as well. There is hope however, with the exception of Voyager (mainly because of the shows circumstances in being stranded away from the fleet) every MODERN trek cast has gone though a uniform change, I can only hope the Enterprise follows suit.
Im really hyped for this show and cant wait until 9-26-01

WHAT'S WITH THE FRIGGIN' TIES?
I mean, are we supposed to believe that we'll be wearing ties in 150 years...and that they are IDENTICAL to the ones we wear today?
I'm worried.

I think it keeps with the retro/futuristic tone of the series. Nifty concept. Reminds me of Naval Dress Uniform outfits. Characters will also be wearing baseball hats/jeans at times too. Cool beans!

They still have ties in the future? When will the nightmare end?
BTW, I guess Starfleet is partially a military outfit. Can't wait to see dress uniforms (hopefully the purple unis are the rough equivalent of submarine jumpsuits, and aren't worn "ashore" that often).
