well your right about one thing there,, no one likes a pessmist. I think the reason that people enjoy the startrek franchise so much is that is shows a world where we are as one .We as a people should strive to be more like the trek world the Gene created for us to be entertained in. Its not only the vision of one man , to see a world were things like hunger, famine, poverty, oppression has been long since gone. People like to be that character that comes in and saves the day, or holds somones hand as they are dieing. People need to escape this cold hard reality that we have generated threw the decline in moral and social values. In any ways the graphics and speacial effects alone are cool to watch. You simply cannot stop a good thing,, the startrek/starwars, science fiction world is like a light that livitates above and beyond the dark world that surrounds us, it shows us a light to lift our heads up and wish and pray for a world to be like, a world full of hope. I have allways said " A MANS CHARACTER IS HIS DESTINY". ! So look at what you have said previously and look at your negative outlooks, so easy to exploit the bad but so hard to uphold the good. thank you,
Rev,Brian S YoungM.D.

I have a few predictions about what may end up happening with the new series and the new movie. Keep in mind that this is purely based on opinion, and not any industry scuttlebutt...
1. As usual, the new show will open to rave reviews among fans, but the general public will smack their heads, saying, "Can't they just let this thing die?" I mean, lets be honest here, friends, and admit that, with each progressive series that has come out since TNG debuted in '87, the overall popularity of the show has been diminished. I remember a time, around the 5th season of Next Gen, where Trek memorabilia had it's own aisle at Toys R Us and various other toy and hobby chains. Many video stores had sections devoted to Trek as well, but with oversaturation, demand has decreased.
2. The movie will most likely get a somewhat better reaction overall than some of the recent trek films have in the past, especially if Paramount's promotional campaign zeroes in on the fact that the screenwriter also did GLADIATOR, and shows lots of stuff blowing up. Also, because of this, it is possible that, for the first time in years, a Trek film might actually get a little industry respect. Even Ebert may be tempted to "Lift a Thumb" in favour of the Enterprise Franchise. Don't expect much, however. Even a lot of die-hard trekkies are getting bored with Trek, and are looking forward to Episode 2 with greater anticipation than ST-X.
3. If the expected downturn of fan enthusiasm happens after the release of Trek X, don't be too shocked if "Enterprise" folds before the traditional 7 year mark. Even B&B, with their "never say die" attitude towards a proven cash cow may throw in the towel if UPN gets disgusted enough with them. Part of the reason Star Trek had endured for so many years before TNG came about was that it was something "Special", a limited resource. Now, 4 series and 9 movies later, there's almost enough recorded video to do the Star Trek Channel. Hell, the fact that TNN won out over SciFi for rights to TNG, DS9 and VGR, as well as most of the movies, should be a good indication that the franchise is on the decline (for those of you that don't know this, TNN used to be "The Nashville Network", a low-budget competitor to CMT). If Sci Fi hadn't shifted so much of their budget towards new, original programming, they might've been able to afford the package.
The cheif issue nobody seems willing to address is that, as Kirk so eloquently told Uhura in Trouble With Tribbles, "Too much of anything, Leuitenant, even Love, is not neccesarily a good thing!" To be frank, maybe it's finally time we got the bridge cleaned up for a while and let Star Trek live on as it did in the 70's, immortalized in reruns, and our imaginations. We definitely Love our Star Trek, it's just that, sometimes, you need to spend some time apart from someone or something you really love, in order to truly appreciate it.
