Cinesacpe reports that 'Voyager' writers
Mike Sussman and Phyllis Strong have jumped on board the new staff for the latest 'Trek' series (TrekWeb's own sources confirm this as well). Sussman's work on 'VOY' includes the story for "Unimatrix Zero" (his original spec was actually quite different) and the episode "The Haunting of Deck Twelve".
In addition, the writing team of Maria and Andre Jacquemetton -- who worked as staff writers on Baywatch and the 1999 series Relic Hunter; Maria also wrote the screenplay for the 1998 film Billboard Dad -- as well as scribes Stephen Beck (Chicago Hope and Seven Days) and Tim Finch have joined the staff.

A good show starts with its writters

Okay, so far, all the shows that have been mentioned have been alright. Relic Hunter probably being the one really bad mark I've seen so far.
I am happy that they got a writter from Seven Days though.. I'm a fan of the show because of its stories. Tales From The Crypt.. X-Files.. Quantum Leap .. I think its good news that their bringing in new tallent. Their bringing in people who can put finishing touches on things. To make the episodes have good character interactions, they got someone from Chigago hope. To get the spooky stuff and tomb-raider kinda thing, they got someone from Relic Hunter (really, the only Indiana Jones style show on TV) and Tales From The Crypt.. to cover the action and gung-ho stuff (not to mention a flare for originality and experience with time-travel stories) they got someone from Seven Days.. For a little sex appeal and good emotion, they got someone from Baywatch.
You know, its sounding to me like thier grabbing people who have EXPERIENCE writing stories that are parallel to some of the themes of the new show. I think their trying really hard to make this series rock, and write the show well right from the begining. Scott Bakula said in one of his interviews that he was deeply concerned how it would go in the first 13 episodes, and I think thats rubbed off on B&B .. I think they've finally realized the substance of quality over flashyness.
I can't wait to see how it goes.

I'll wait and see, but I wished they'd have found some more adventurous writers or at least picked more reliable Voyager veterans. I'm sorry to see Michael Taylor and Bryan Fuller aren't aboard - they were the best of the bunch on Voyager. I do like seeing new faces, and since I don't know much about their bodies of work I can only say I didn't much care for most of the shows they've written for (but everyone has to start somewhere).
Question only slightly related to this: what's Naren Shankar up to now? He used to write for TNG and did a couple DS9s and Voyager, went to Farscape and now..? he'd have been great for 'Enterprise.'

Why couldn't these writers have come on board for Voyager? The thought of Jeri Ryan running up and down the corridors in a little red bathing suit would make me watch!!!
Seriously though (well I was being serious, but to make a truly valid point...), I won't judge these writers on Baywatch. As long as these guys are faithful to the source material (as I'm sure they were on Baywatch)of whatever shows they are working on, how can we criticize? Staying true, whether a juvenile comedy or a compelling drama, is all one could ask for.
I hope that will be the case here...

This isn't the first instance of Baywatch-Trek writer crosspollination; TNG writer Maurice Hurley, who essentially created the Borg in "Q Who" and wrote the rejected (and some say better) version of Star Trek: Generations (rampaging alien menace, Kirk as a hologram), was head writer and story editor for Baywatch in its final years.

People already condemn these writers because they wrote for Baywatch. Well that was one of probably many writing roles for them. Additionaly, you still have to be a good writer for a show like Baywatch, even if you don't like the tone of the show. You can't just role in and write! These are professionals.
Let's see how they write for Enterprise and its characters, and how the show is guided by the executive producers, BEFORE making smart alec comments.
