Yet More Spoilers For "Broken Bow": New Info About The Suliban |

SyFy Portal claims to have now been the latest to see a version of the "Broken Bow" pilot script, dated May 1 this year. By now most of the episode has been substantially revealed online but the site adds a few extra details:
- The explosion in the cornfields is actually Farmer Moore's silo, which explodes, killing the Suliban officers in pursuit of our Klingon pilot, who now has a name: Klaang.
- The Klingon Empire is new to humanity but the Vulcans are well aware of the race. The Klingon chancellor tells Archer later that had Klaang not been returned, a squadron of Klingon ships (the site quotes this as "warbirds", which may be a mistake on their part or perhaps a mistake on the writers' part or perhaps no mistake at all) would be orbiting Earth by the "end of the week."
- T'Pol tells Archer that she was waiting for him to be ready to "look beyond your provincial attitudes and volatile nature," [with regard to allowing humanity to venture into the stars]. Archer responds, "Volatile? You have no idea how much I am restraining myself from knocking you on your ass."
- Doctor Phlox likes Chinese food, egg drop soup in particular.
- The exotic alien scenes take place on Rigel Ten, where Archer tries to learn more about the Suliban's pursuit of Klaang. Here Archer meets Sarin, an outcast Suliban who opposes her race's alliance with the temporal aliens and who masquerades as a human female to learn about Archer (the woman kissing Archer in the promo).
- T'Pol takes command of the Enterprise at one point, as a result of events developing at Rigel Ten.
- Tractor beams will not be available.

Let me say this:
#1. Both Romulan and Klingon ships can be refered to as "Warbirds" or "Birds of Prey" or "Battling Pigeons" as far as I'm concerned. Every Romulan and Klingon battle ship I've ever seen has been shaped like a bird somehow, and the D-7 class cruisers in TOS were especially bird-like, so unless the 22nd century Klingon ships look like Borg Cubes, the term Warbird would seem appropriate to their arcitechture.
#2. To those who wouldn't like the TOS special effects to be replaced by CGI, i can only say I fully support updating them, and I'd personally like to see the whole series re-made with new sets and actors (The original performers would be nicer but they're old and I think one's dead) but with the same exact scripts. A re-made TOS would make the original stories easier to watch and understand, it'd also be nice to see "The Cage" re-made and aired. A new TOS would never be the same as the 60s one, but would be easier for younger fans to watch. Including me.
THANK you

Klingon warbirds? Possible.

This is not the first time that we have heard a Klingon ship referred to as a "warbird,." I don't think. Anyone recall an obscure little flick called "Star Trek 3: The Search For Spock?" They all called the (then) new ship design a "Bird of Prey,"( a term we had only heard used by Romulans heretofore) and it DID have a bird painted on the bottom of the wings, like a Romulan, but with a distinctly Klingon design. So the idea that a warbird and bird motif must be Romulan is not accurate. We really don't know who had it first, the Romulans or the Klingons: all we know is who we saw using it first, the Romulans. Perhaps there has been some mutual borrowing of terms, designs and ideas going way back, especially since the Romulans fought with Earth before the Klingons did.
In fact, I cannot recall the term "warbird" ever really being used before; it was always "Bird of Prey." Can anyone identify the actual on-air use of the term "warbird?"(Please post it if you know.) Maybe it's just a generic term meaning a fighting ship, used by both races.

What is that ship?

If you follow the link above, you'll go to SyFy's main page. On that page, there's an image of a ship in a red gaseous environment. Is this the Suliban ship (their report says that the Enterprise pursues the Suliban ship into a red giant), or a Klingon ship? It actually resembles the original Romulan Bird-of-Prey, with the painted-on wings. So what is it?

When the original footage was released I posted that it looked like a silo blowing up and not an alien ship. Think I'll take another look at the Zapruder film...
I'm glad there's no tractor beam, yet.
Most distressing is the 'warbird' quote. 'Klingon battle ship' would've been more appropriate. The whole 'bird' thing came from the sharing of technology with the Romulans in TOS, but we all know the current producers believe TOS to be a myth, anyway.

"Disastrous" First Contact

Hmm. My first reaction to the Chancellor's comment above is "ah, so that's why Klingon first contact was so disastrous" as Picard stated in the TNG episode "First Contact." But of course, that *isn't* how the episode plays out; Archer and co prevent this from happening. So now the pessimist in me fears that "Enterprise" is starting off a policy of intentional timeline revision (thanks to FutureGuy) right here in the first episode.
Yes, this is purely speculation. I hope this isn't the case, but....
