Dept: Star Trek X
By now the entire story, its subplots and character arcs, and even finale twists have been spoiled for the upcoming tenth 'Star Trek' feature, set to begin shooting in two months (October). But TrekToday's source 'Faith' is still managing to drudge up new details from the script.
In this latest report, 'Faith' documents the various mentionings of 'Star Trek' canon from TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY throughout the script that self-professed 'Star Trek' fan (and 'Trek X' scnreenwriter) John Logan has promised. Among the tidbits are these highlights:
- The Enterprise-E's cargo bay, ten forward and stellar cartography sets will be seen for the first time (at least, according to the script).
- Andorians, Tellarites, Gorn, Pakleds, Bolians, Nausicaans, Cardassians and Talosians all make appearances in the dialogue for the film. Also, the U.S.S. Orion is dispatched to deal with Shinzon (the film's villain) and is captained by an Andorian, Meelok, who taught Picard at the Academy. In one of Janeway's communiques with Picard she advises him "When in doubt, run to the old Andorian..."
- Lwaxana Troi, the Treaty of Algeron, Dr. Soong, and Lore all get mentions.
- Shinzon fought for the Romulans with other Remans on the front lines of the Dominion War and personally won seventeen major engagements.
- Riker orders a maneuver called "Defensive Pattern Kirk Epsilon" and wishes aloud that the E-E had saucer separation capabilities.
- Toward the end of the film, Picard receives a new captain's chair equipped with metal restraints (seat belts) that fly into place at the touch of a button.
- Picard's new first officer at the end of the film is 'Commander Madden' (no sex is given) and describes their next mission, to explore the Denab System as "...exciting. It's a place... where no one has gone before."
