From TV Guide Online:
Shatner Explores Enterprise
Tuesday, August 14, 2001
Look alive, Trekkers, the captain's on deck! Arriving at the Osmosis Jones premiere at Hollywood's Egyptian Theater, newlywed William Shatner cheerily introduced red-carpet reporters to his fourth bride, the former Elizabeth Anderson Martin. The actor crowned the current queen of his heart earlier this year in Gary, Ind., where he met her while emceeing the 50th annual Miss USA Pageant.
Asked how married life is treating him, Shatner dramatically told TV Guide Online: "With compassion, sympathy and a great deal of tenderness." Then he looked at his wife, and the two burst into laughter. "It's a lot of fun," he added, vaguely frightening us enough to switch gears...
So, what is Shatner's take on UPN's upcoming Star Trek prequel, Enterprise, featuring Quantum Leaper Scott Bakula as a starship captain living a century before Kirk's time? "I don't know anything about it," he shrugged. "I know less than you know." Even so, he had only good things to say about Bakula — who also sang Shatner's praises to TV Guide Online recently. "Scott Bakula will be wonderful," he enthused. "He's a very powerful actor."
What qualities will Bakula need to succeed on the bridge? "Stamina, for one," Shatner said. "That's the main one. It's a long, arduous shoot." And has he any worries that the Trek franchise may be exhausted? "We'll know, won't we?" he laughed, raising an eyebrow. "We'll find out!"
The 70-year-old showbiz vet tackled a new challenge of his own in the animated yuckfest Osmosis — he's the voice of Phlegmming, the corrupt mayor of the city within Bill Murray's ailing body. "You do it alone [in a recording studio]," he said. "I didn't know who else was in the film until I read the credits!" — Daniel R. Coleridge
