The Corona Coming Attractions web site has received a report from an insider at Paramount claiming that actor Jude Law is up to play the villain, 'Shinzon', in the upcoming tenth 'Trek' feature, currently titled 'Nemesis'. Law recently appeared as the android 'Gigolo Joe' in the Steven Spielberg film 'A.I.' and in the film 'Enemey At The Gates' earlier this year. The characer of Shinzon calls for an actor in his late 20s/early 30s and shares an important secret with Captain Picard in the film (for more details, click on TrekWeb's 'Trek X' fact sheet, but beware of spoilers).
The site also reports that actor Craig T. Nelson of the CBS drama 'The District' is in talks to play Shinzon's right-hand man. At the same time, Corona's source explains that old rumors of Sean Connery playing Shinzon were never true but that the producers sought to place the actor in a smaller role, that of a Romulan senator seen in the beginning of the film. Whether this is still the case is unknown.
The site adds that if Nelson were to appear, it would have to be shot in between the actor's committment to 'The District', which premieres in October. Further, Law mentioned in a UK radio appearance last week that he might play a villain in an upcoming Arnold Schwarzenegger project, but the site's source says the 'Nemesis' opportunity may have just presented itself after that interview. |
