Ain't It Cool News has posted a report from an anonymous "insider" regarding the title sequence for ENTERPRISE. First, regular AICN source "Moriarty" writes a paragraph "vouching" for the validity of the source who provides the report, "Captain Hairpiece," saying he is very "hooked up" when it comes to information on film industry music...
The report contains plenty of familar AICN editorializing but manages to claim that the Diane Warren song "Faith of the Heart", sung by Rod Stewart and featured on the 'Patch Adams' soundtrack, will be re-recorded by a younger, "hipper" artist to provide the theme for the ENTERPRISE title sequence. If true, this would mark the first time that a 'Star Trek' series has not used orchestration for its primary theme. A sample of the Rod Stewart version of the song, which features the lyric, "No one can bend or break me... I can reach any star... I've got faith of the heart...", can be heard at Amazon.com by following this link.
The report also claims that the sequence itself will contain clips of various exploration missions throughout history -- Columbus sailing, First Walk on the Moon, etc. -- ending with the launch of the Enterprise NX-01.
In addition to the childish presentation of the article, and AICN's hit-and-miss track record, the author of the report adds one more tidbit that puts this entire report into question: that William Shatner will appear as an ancestor of 'Kirk' during November sweeps. Shatner has repeatedly stated in interviews that he has nothing to do with the series and this addition just seems to reek of incredulity.
That said, it certainly would fit into Paramount's "reinventing" of 'Star Trek' to use a song rather than an instrumental as the theme, but then why not use the enormously popular-with-the-fans song from the UPN promos that have been running for the last six weeks?
AICN's original report is here.
