Dept: General Star Trek
The DVD File web site has this report:
"With the announcement of Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition, all the Trek big-screen adventures are now on DVD, so of course Paramount is releasing a box set of the films on 11/6. (Oh, c'mon now, don't act surprised!) Star Trek: The Original Crew Movie Collection features the first six films featuring the original Trek crew, and retails for $125.95. Star Trek: The Motion Pictures Collection features all nine films in the series (so far), and retails for $183.95. All these discs are the same as previously released (or in the case of The Motion Picture, will be released) with no extra features."

Also, TNN has reported that they will be telecasting the first five "Star
Trek" feature films in an all day "Labor Day Trek-a-thon", to warm up
viewers for the TNN debut of "The Next Generation".

Sounds like the evil clone known as George Lucas not Rick Berman is behind this attempt to milk Trek fans out of more cash!
Just my two cents!

Why would anyone buy this box set now? If we hadn't had the rumors of further special editions, I could see someone shelling out for these, but now that there seems to be a decent chance that the other films may get the Special Edition treatment, why not just wait? Similarly, I can understand someone buying the featureless DVDs individually before the TMP Special Ed. came out, but now?
It's actually a bit insulting on Paramount's part. They've got plans to release the movies as "real" feature-packed DVDs, and now they want to sell more of the plain ones before they get around to making them as Special Editions. They think that Trek fans are stupid enough to buy DVDs twice. They're wrong... aren't they?
