"Star Trek: Voyager" star Tim Russ conducted an MP3
interview as part of EMusic.com's 35th anniversary
Star Trek celebration, at http://www.emusic.com/promo/startrek/trekweb/index.html?fref=122813.
The interview will be available as an MP3 download on
Sept. 12. Russ will also be participating in a Yahoo!
chat on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. Pacific Time (4 p.m.
Eastern Time). Fans can access the chat by visiting
either Yahoo! at
http://chat.yahoo.com/c/events/info/2001/09/13/091301russ.html
or EMusic at http://www.emusic.com/trek/
In the MP3 interview, Russ talks about the future of
"Voyager," his visits to the set of the new series
"Enterprise" and answers critics of the direction of
the Star Trek franchise. He mentioned that fans
shouldn't hold their breath for a "Voyager" movie.
The Russ chat is part of a two-month celebration of
all things Star Trek at EMusic.com, a downloadable
music subscription service. Last week, an MP3
interview with Nichelle Nichols revealed her
experiences on the original Star Trek series,
including being given the first interracial kiss in TV
history and being encouraged by Martin Luther King to
remain on the show after its first season.
EMusic has original music and sound effects from the
'60s Star Trek TV series, as well as "Next
Generation," "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager," plus
original music from many of the blockbuster Star Trek
movies. Tim Russ also has original music available for
download at EMusic. New material will be added during
the months of September and October in honor of the
35th anniversary of "Star Trek," which debuted on
Sept. 8, 1966.
The music is offered in the crystal clear MP3 format.
To EMusic.com, the sometimes-controversial technology
known as MP3 represents the "needs of the many
outweighing the needs of the few," as Spock might put
it. MP3s are unencrypted so they can be listened to on
a PC, burned to CD-R for playback on a home stereo or
uploaded to a portable player. These are not audio
streams, but downloads that can be used again and
again.
EMusic licenses its music from labels and compensates
artists for every track downloaded. In addition to the
music, EMusic's September and October "Sounds of Star
Trek" celebration will feature streaming video,
behind-the-scenes photos from the making of the Star
Trek soundtrack albums and more. Users need only test
drive the service to access up to 100 free Star Trek
MP3s. The offer is only good once per user and is only
open to people who have not taken a test drive before.
