In the wake of the terrorist attacks on the United States yesterday, which led to the nationwide shutdown of all air traffic and government facilities, Paramount Pictures joined with the rest of the Hollywood studios in halting operations for the day. I will not devote more space here to the details of these horrific events, which I'm sure most are aware of and can read about here. Myself and all those involved in TrekWeb express our condolences to the families of the victims in New York, Washington, and Pittsburgh.

In 'Trek' news, the cast of ENTERPRISE has spoken with Ian Spelling for Entertainment News Daily. Dominic Keating, Scott Bakula, Linda Park, John Billingsley, and Rick Berman offer a few quotes:

Over on Stage 9, Billingsley and Park are rehearsing their next scene. Surrounded by a landscape of dirt and rocks intended to represent a barren planet, Park opens a small silver-and-glass box and pretends to free a creature. He talks gently to it and places it on a rock as Billingsley looks on.

``And I squish it!'' Billingsley shouts, cracking everyone up.

For the next few minutes, Billingsley and Park rehearse the scene, as Kroeker and veteran ``Trek'' director of photography Marvin West contemplate camera angles. Once everyone seems satisfied, Billingsley and Park change into costume before returning to the set to spend a half-hour shooting the scene.

Sitting in a makeup chair, Park - whose credits include ``Popular'' and a bit part in ``Jurassic Park III'' (2001) - explains that the scene is pivotal for her character: Neophyte space traveler Sato is essentially speaking to herself when she tells the creature that it will adapt to its new world.

``In a way, Hoshi's saying goodbye to her younger self,'' Park says. ``I'm letting that part of me go and I'm basically turning the page - and I feel a bit like that for real, too. Doing the show, doing all the press for the launch, I find myself saying, `You'll adapt, you'll be fine.' I'm fairly new to this, so it's a little daunting.

``But it's exciting and I'm incredibly happy to be here.''
