The latest issue of Star Trek Monthly magazine features an exclusive interview with John Billingsley, in which he discusses developing the character of 'Dr. Phlox', the NX-01 Medical Officer.
"[Phlox's race is] never seen before" he told the magazine "As yet unnamed planet, as yet unnamed backstory - nil except what I've created for myself. Because [the Enterprise creators are] swamped, they've not provided me with a detailed back story, so I've created one for myself, which doubtless they will contradict. Maybe if I say this enough times, they'll subscribe to it themselves."
