Scott Bakula on Why He Took The Role of 'Captain Archer'

The latest issue of Star Trek Monthly magazine, just out in the UK, features an exclusive interview with ENTERPRISE star Scott Bakula, in which he talks about the role of 'Captain Archer' and the reasons he took the part.

"I'm a Starfleet Brat, basically. I grew up in the system, my dad was part of the whole thing, fufilling this life long dream to captain a Starship and then being the first one to go out [into deep space]. All of these things were very appealing to me, being an avid fan of the first, the original Star Trek series. So to get an opportunity to go before [the Star Trek Original Series] and to do all the things that they were talking about - it was a big carrot and it was a good one to put in front of me. I sat with Rick and Brannon on Thursday morning, came into this room [where the interview was taking place] and we had lunch with the cast and a rad through with our Premiere director James Conway. Then he went away and rehearsed two or three scenes that day that we knew we were going to shoot on Monday first thing [...]"

Bakula also explained what sitting in the Captain's Chair of the Enterprise NX-01 feels like and talked about the phenomenal sets. The ENTERPRISE : Back In Time website posted a transcript of the interview here
