DVD File's Peter M. Bracke reviewed the new STTMP: DE a couple weeks ago and somehow it slipped by. In any case, the review is mostly positive and gives an extensive description of the many extra features included on the forthcoming DVD. While being disappointed by some of the featurettes, Bracke finds the recut Director's Edition of the film with its improved effects and sound track a gem, along with the audio commentary and deleted scenes sections.
"Finally, Paramount has delivered a special edition of the first big-screen Star Trek adventure, one that fans have been waiting for for eons. Star Trek: The Motion Picture has always generated mixed feelings from most Trek fans, but this new Director's Edition should offer a whole new perspective on what is in my opinion a sorely overlooked classic. While I was a bit disappointed in the supplements, most notably the featurettes, the transfer and especially sound mix are sure to delight. So beam me up, and let's hope this is just the start of more Trek special editions from Paramount. Recommended."
The review also features several screenshots from the new cut of the film. Read the whole article here. |
