AOLiveMC11: The last time this happened to Mr. Shatner, he was AOLiveMC11: almost trapped on a planet forever ... I hope we have good AOLiveMC11: results this time, too! AOLiveMC11: Thank you, Lt. Uhura!! We have just re-established communications! ShatnerLive: Good evening everybody! ShatnerLive: I am sorry that I am slightly delayed, but I am in ShatnerLive: Kansas City and along with great states and good air they have ShatnerLive: bad telephone reception. ShatnerLive: But I am online now, and I've just come from ShatnerLive: a meal at my hotel and it reminded me of how ShatnerLive: we take for granted good food. ShatnerLive: And the Iron Chefs is all about appreciating good cooking and ShatnerLive: therefore good eating and it is all done in a great ShatnerLive: spirit of fun and humor ShatnerLive: So I think you will love to watch Iron Chef, which ShatnerLive: you may or not know, is on UPN, Friday night at 9:00 p.m. AOLiveMC11: Mr. Shatner, our first question tonight comes from AOLiveMC11: BubbleG5 who asks ... Question: Did you like Iron Chef before you were asked to come on it? ShatnerLive: Yes indeed. ShatnerLive: I think Iron Chef, which is from Japan has differentiated ShatnerLive: from Iron Chef USA is a terrific show. ShatnerLive: I mean it is really crazy when you think of combining cooking with ShatnerLive: old samari movies. ShatnerLive: And one of our big problems was how to make Iron Chef USA ShatnerLive: equally good and hopefully better than the Japanese version. ShatnerLive: And, ShatnerLive: in my humble opinion I think we have done it ShatnerLive: with a combination of showmanship and humor and ShatnerLive: even a little philosphy mixed in. ShatnerLive: Not only that, we speak English! AOLiveMC11: Well, it's definitely hard to not look forward AOLiveMC11: to the new "Iron Chef" without thinking about the one that AOLiveMC11: ran for so long in Japan. Which brings AOLiveMC11: up our next question from our audience, someone AOLiveMC11: by the name of Chairman Shatner .. any relation? :P Question: Who is your favorite iron chef on the original television show Question: (aired in Japan)? ShatnerLive: Chef Yamachui, or Chinto Mubora or Yakasuki, ShatnerLive: but the one I got to know best was Chef Todd English, whose ShatnerLive: name you might recognize as an American Chef. And he of course ShatnerLive: was not on the Japanese show, but the American show. AOLiveMC11: Our next question comes from Myrna in our audience ... Question: What's your favorite food, and will it be used as an ingredient on Question: 'Iron Chef'? ShatnerLive: It is difficult for me to tell you what my favorite food is, ShatnerLive: my downfall as well as my upbringing, leads me into thinking ShatnerLive: that all food is good. ShatnerLive: But if I were having my last meal, ShatnerLive: and I didn't want to have a sore stomach, I would ShatnerLive: have Japanese food. ShatnerLive: On the other hand, if it was my last meal ShatnerLive: I wouldn't mind a sore stomach so I would have Russian food. AOLiveMC11: We're talking with William Shatner ... AOLiveMC11: Our next question comes from SugarCutie ... Question: How come you have a cooking show now, what made you choose Question: cheffing, as a next logical step? ShatnerLive: I wish I thought in logical steps, ShatnerLive: what seems to happen is somebody comes along with an idea ShatnerLive: and I think what fun and plunge in with great enthusiasm ShatnerLive: and sometimes thats good and sometimes thats bad,. ShatnerLive: In this case, I think it is going to be good. ShatnerLive: It certainly was good in the making of the show, ShatnerLive: now all that remains to be seen is how the public will accept it. Question: Where is your 'Iron Chef' show based, and why was that city selected? ShatnerLive: It is based in Las Vegas. ShatnerLive: And that was selected for a number of reasons. ShatnerLive: They had a great studio room, ShatnerLive: some fabulous chefs from whom we could select some representatives, ShatnerLive: it is a fun city representative of the fun of the show, ShatnerLive: and since the polls show it is a gamble anyways, it seemed to suit Las Vegas! AOLiveMC11: We're chatting with William Shatner, host of the new UPN show AOLiveMC11: "Iron Chef" Question: Please give us a hint about the first shows secret ingredient! ShatnerLive: The secret ingredient is a protein, it has ShatnerLive: several types of molecules, ShatnerLive: the molecules are made of atoms, ShatnerLive: and the atoms have electrons flowing around them, ShatnerLive: but perhaps I reveal too much! AOLiveMC11: Mr. Shatner, you are known for all kinds of different work AOLiveMC11: you've done ... and you've also become a pop icon. AOLiveMC11: What's the most interesting rumor you've ever heard AOLiveMC11: about yourself? ShatnerLive: Certainly the latest rumor and perhaps the most interesting ShatnerLive: is the article that appeared in the New York Post ShatnerLive: accusing me of passing gas on my new DVD, "Mind Meld." ShatnerLive: Now I have to tell you ShatnerLive: that "Mind Meld" is an intimate and revealing conversation I ShatnerLive: have with Leaonard N. ShatnerLive: Fans interested in Star Trek will like this view on Mind Meld. ShatnerLive: And I find it unreasonable the the New York Post would think it is ME ShatnerLive: passing gas and not Leonard. ShatnerLive: He is older than me, therefore his insides are gummed up more than mine ShatnerLive: and as far as I am concerned, he is the most suspect. ShatnerLive: But no the Post thought it was me. ShatnerLive: It was a vile and dasterly rumor, and I have that this is, pardon the phrase, ShatnerLive: a passing fancy! AOLiveMC11: Well, outside of the New York Post article, there is a lot of AOLiveMC11: excitement over your new DVD, "Mind Meld" with AOLiveMC11: Leonard Nimoy ... which brings this question ... Question: In your chat last week you mentioned that you'd like to do a Mind Meld Question: with Patrick Stewart. Is there anyone else you'd like to do one with? ShatnerLive: There was such honesty and vulnerability between Leonard and me ShatnerLive: based I'm sure on our long and fruitful friendship, ShatnerLive: that it would be difficult to achieve the same results ShatnerLive: with anybody else. ShatnerLive: But if I could, ShatnerLive: I'd love to meld minds with many people. ShatnerLive: There are scientist whose inner life I would like to examine. ShatnerLive: There are athletes whose worlds we have never seen. ShatnerLive: There are philosphers whose thougths would be wonderous to examine. ShatnerLive: In the best of all possible worlds, people would allow me into the inner most ShatnerLive: lives and I would meld with anyone. AOLiveMC11: Siamese9 asks ...
