TrekWeb received the following press release for a brand new and innovative charity event to take place next August involving William Shatner:

WILLIAM SHATNER AND CHALLENGE PARK XTREME TO HOST A CHARITY PAINTBALL EVENT

Joliet, Illinois, December 5th, 2002- Challenge Park Xtreme announced today it will be the host paintball field for SPPLAT’s first event, a yet-untitled big game scheduled for August 31st, 2002, that has attracted some of the entertainment industry’s best-known celebrities.

SPPLAT, the Society of Paintball Players and Teams, recently inked a deal with William Shatner, famous for his role of Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek television series and subsequent films, to take an active role in the big event. Mr. Shatner will personally command one of the big game’s three teams. Participants will be able to play along side and against Shatner and his team.

SPPLAT is currently in negotiations with several other various celebrities to take part in the charity event, as well as Paramount Pictures to use the name and theme of the Star Trek franchise. The event will benefit Ahead with Horses, a charity organization that Shatner has been involved with before, and gives physically challenged children the thrill of riding a horse and helps their self-esteem.

In keeping with the game's potential Star Trek theme, look for both costume and look-a-like contests, as well as a vendor area with many exclusive collector’s edition items available.

Challenge Park Xtreme is the world’s first extreme theme park and has several other events planned for the weekend. Some of the activities include a freestyle BMX contest, a mountain biking race, a BMX race, a mountain biking bike ‘n shoot contest, live concerts and appearances by other celebrities.

For further information, contact Challenge Park Xtreme at www.challengepark.com or SPPLAT at www.spplat.com, and be sure to stay tuned to this publication for future updates.
