The STAR TREK auction that took place Wednesday night at the Hollywood Entertainment Museum saw fierce competition for such items as prop phasers, tricorders, and Matt Jefferies' scale model of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, according to the official site. Included in the auction was original series art designer Matt Jefferies entire memorabilia collection, the proceeds of which Jefferies plans to donate to the Motion Picture and Television Fund.
Profiles in History, the company that ran the auction, reports that most items raked in much more than expected. Take a STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN hand phaser prop--this item finally sold for $50,000 after intense bidding between buyers on the floor and over the Internet through online auction site eBay. An original series tricorder and a phaser rifle from STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT each went for $45,000, Jefferies' Enterprise for $40,000, and William Ware Thiess's gold tunic worn by Captain Kirk during the second season went for a stunning $40,000 as well.
