The latest issue of Cult Times magazine, just out in the UK, features an exclusive interview with actor Thomas Kopache, who played the role of the Vulcan 'Tos' in the ENTERPRISE pilot episode, Broken Bow. Kopache is not a stranger to the Star Trek universe and has played many guest roles in the previous Trek series, including 'Viorsa' in Voyager's 'The Thaw' and 'Taban' (Major Kira's father) in DS9's 'Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night' and 'Ties of Blood and Water'

"Despite having watched and worked on the show and having a great affection for the Vulcans, I was, at first, slightly intimidated by this role. There have been some wonderful actors who played Vulcans, but of course, the Vulcan of all Vulcans, Leonard Nimoy's Mr. Spock, was sitting in the back of my mind looking at me. Once I got the over that hurdle I began to get very excited. I thought, 'What's my take on this ? How do I feel about being a Vulcan ?' I sort of let my imagination take off and then when I looked at the material I realised there was a certain aspect of Tos that was intriguing. It was his disdain, I guess, or his dislike of humans generally, we think of Vulcans as being friends and allies. However, here I had to think 'Okay, how do I remain true to the Vulcans logical view of the universe and then taint it with this characters antagonism ?' I had to play around with that in my head and bring it to my performance. It was a marvellous challenge."

A transcript of the full interview can be found at Sci Fi Pulse website.
