GENERATIONS' Alan Ruck Hospitalized
Alan Ruck--best known to TREK fans as Captain John Harriman, CO of the USS ENTERPRISE-B in STAR TREK GENERATIONS--is currently hospitalized fighting off a strep infection that has caused the 45-year-old actor kidney failure, according to an E! NEWS ONLINE report.
Ruck, who has been seen each week as NYC Mayoral Chief of Staff Stuart Bondek on ABC's SPIN CITY, was admitted to an undisclosed New York hospital on December 23rd of last year. However, no one outside the series or network was made aware until this past Sunday's GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS, when SPIN star Charlie Sheen, in accepting his award for Best Actor in a TV Comedy, closed his acceptance speech with the phrase, "Oh, and Alan Ruck, this one is for you."
Producers of the show later confirmed Ruck's hospitalization and forwarded their wishes to him and his family for a speedy recovery. It is unlikely, however, that Ruck will have recovered sufficiently to rejoin the cast for any of the final seven episodes that go before the cameras starting this week and wrapping up in March. Spokespeople for the show confirm, though, that his spot in the cast will be waiting for him.
Besides the role in GENERATIONS, Ruck's film career also includes his break-out role as sidekick Cameron to Matthew Broderick in FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF, as well as supporting roles in the movies SPEED and TWISTER. He has been with the formerly-Michael J. Fox-lead series since its inception in 1996.
ABC issued a statement earlier this week, which alerted the public that Ruck "is expected to make a full recovery after a lengthy rehabilitation
period."
