Dominic Keating on His Expanded ENT Role in "Shuttlepod One"

Sci Fi Wire has posted an intervew with Dominic Keating on getting to stretch his acting muscles with Conner Trinneer in the upcoming ENT episode, "Shuttlepod One."

"[Things] got off to a slightly slow start for Malcolm," Keating said in an interview about his relatively small part so far in the series. "I didn't mind. I sort of started to mind a little in my private moments. I thought, 'Give me a little bit more than telling the captain that the ventral plating is down an extra 25 percent.'"

Keating added, "As an actor, this experience, particularly on 'Shuttlepod One,' I didn't expect it. I don't want to insult [co-creator] Brannon [Braga] or anyone who writes for the show, but I didn't expect ... to play such a three-dimensional, living, breathing human being on a science fiction show. I didn't expect it. So I'm bowled over. I hope there's more of that to come."

"Shuttlepod One" centers on Reed and Tucker. "We have a ticking clock, in that we're running out of air," Keating said. "It was quite hard filming, because in the episode we turn the thermostat down to conserve oxygen, so the temperature drops, and they built an igloo for us on [Paramount] Stage 8 and put six air conditioners in there with packs of dry ice, and it took the temperature down to subzero, and we did three days in that. It was pretty tough."
