 Original Series writer D.C. Fontana will receive the Writer's Guild of America, west's Morgan Cox Award for service to the guild. The award will be presented at the 54th Writer's Guild Awards on Saturday, March 2. The award is given to individuals, according to WGA press release, "whose vital ideas, continuing efforts and personal sacrifice best exemplify the ideal of service to the Guild." Fontana has served on the guild's board of directors twice and on several committees since she joined in 1960.
Fontana is known to Star Trek fans for her position as personal assistant to Gene Roddenberry and staff writer on the original Star Trek series, for which she had a profound influence through scripts like "Journey to Babel" and "Charlie X." She also co-wrote the pilot that began the new generation of television TREK, "Encounter At Farpoint," and flushed out the Dax character in the DS9 script, "Dax."
