According to The Hollywood Reporter today, TNG and TREK film star and director Jonathan Frakes has signed to direct the suspense thriller 'Illusion' for the Walt Disney Co. Frakes will produce as well with his partner Lisa Olin through his Goepp Circle Productions company.

The film, about an illusionist who finds himself on the run after staging the death of an industry tycoon, is described by the trade paper as a cross between 'The Fugitive' and 'F/X'. With Disney's Jason Reed overseeing the project, scribes Brent Bell and Matt Peterman are set to develop the script from the pitch, which Disney has picked up in the mid-six figure range.

This marks the first directing gig for Frakes since the recently-completed 'Clockstoppers'. Frakes got his directorial debut with 1996's 'Star Trek: First Contact', which went on to become the second highest grossing pic of the franchise. Frakes followed up with the lukewarm 'Star Trek: Insurrection' in 1998 and has previously been linked to a sequel to the movie 'Total Recall', since abandoned. Frakes is currently reprising his role as 'Commander William T. Riker' for the fourth 'Next Generation' feature film, NEMESIS, set for release this fall.
