Linda Park Talks About ENTERPRISE and Her Hopes for Sato

The Official Linda Park Website has posted an interview with Star Trek's newest communications officer in the February issue of Star Trek Magazine. Linda Park talks about her excitement for, and the rigors of, working on ENTERPRISE, the fans and her hopes for an evolving relationship between Sato and Jolene Blalock's T'Pol.

On the fans, she said "I feel an immense responsibility to the fans because, more than any other show STAR TREK is here because of them. They are a real phenomenon, and I feel the responsibility of making this a show that makes them not only feel that STAR TREK is carrying on, but also that they can be proud of it. And maybe the show will encourage those who don't watch STAR TREK to become fans, in the way that NEXT GENERATION did; the original STAR TREK had become kind of cultish, but NEXT GENERATION made it popular all over again. This is going to be a really great show, and people will watch it not only because it's STAR TREK, but on its own merit. Just making it a good show will be serving the legacy: making it a show that anyone, everyone, will want to watch still keeping those basic principles of what makes STAR TREK so great - the sense of adventure, the sense of exploration and discovery. I think the great thing is that, no matter how far into the future we get, the same human principles will always exist, and you'd not only be in human relationships but aliens would fit into that too. I think that what's so alluring about it; seeing a glimpse of what could be - love, friendship, all those great things."

For the future, she hopes to see things develop for Sato in a variety of ways: "She has a great relationship with the captain and the doctor - both are in different ways mentors to her, and as actors they're both so much fun to work with. I hope also that T'Pol and Hoshi will build a friendship, a closeness being the only two women I think that's very important, and being such polar opposites that'll be a really interesting journey to watch - how these women resolve their initial dislike and what makes them finally come together and support each other. And I definitely think there'll be romance for her. I don't quite know who with - maybe with aliens, a new guy every week. She speaks their language!"
