The Region 2 Project has posted a review of the extras to accompany the first season of TNG when it arrives in March on DVD. According to the site, the extras are fully new and mostly rewarding.
"The Beginning" section contains a collection of interviews and behind the scenes footage with the entire cast as well as Gene Roddenberry and Robert Justman about the genesis of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' in 1987. In addition to interesting insights about the casting, you'll see models of the Enterprise under construction and work on achieving the warp drive effect for the series.
Next, "Selected Crew Analysis" offers interviews with each cast member from early on in season one: how they got their role, early thoughts on the series, etc. "These are a great set of interviews that really get behind the characters some of which are surprising, especially watch out for Marina Sirtis towards the end of the piece with some of the biggest sparkly earrings you've ever seen."
"The Making of a Legend" section goes into description of how much of TNG's effects were created before the hey-day of computer effects now steering modern Trek effects.
Interviews focus on the sets and technical aspects with interviews with Mike Okuda, Herman Zimmerman, and Dan Curry. "You'll hear how a bowling ball and falling salt where used to create force field effects."
Finally, "Memorable Missions" presents retrospective interviews from the cast looking back on the first season of TNG. "Thus you'll here Jonathan Frakes talk about his immersion in black gunk in "Skin of Evil", LeVar Burton talk about "Heart of Glory", the first time we see through Gordie's visor... done want to spoil them for you but I'm sure all fans will be delighted by this material. Hey, you even get to see Armin Shimerman talk about his appearance in the series."
