    Dept: Star Trek BBS Update

Be Happy Friday has arrived again, and as we head into Super Bowl Weekend (when did it become a whole weekend, it started out as Super Bowl Sunday) we will look back with fond memories at the week that was in the Star Trek BBS. Now to get the formalities out of the way, hop on over to the STAR TREK BBS and see what’s going on today! If you haven’t signed up yet, you can do so here.

This week kind of reminded me of an old saying: “Never discuss two things at dinner, Religion and Politics.” This appeared to be advice we were taking because neither topic did well this week. With that in mind……

Last Saturday started off with everyone hung over from the awards show, especially The Lensman, what an entrance he made. I don’t want to see what he looked like come sunup. Just remember to drink plenty of water, and I hear Tylenol helps too.

Next frogs_have_warts would get us rolling wondering what TNG and DS9 originally aired on. Of course most people know that they were both in syndication, (silly rabbit) but was the answer that simple? No, it never is here. We turned out discussing DS9’s rankings for it’s 7 seasons. Summed up, the ratings were bad, but it was still rated #1 5 seasons, which means what exactly?

Cymro would ask when we first realized that Archer was a wuss. He has a way of puting things bluntly. Somehow Marker86 ended up saying if he had a feminine side he’d never stop touching it. Then cucumbers were brought up and things really got ugly. Anyways, just take a look if you’re interested. Keep in mind some material may be offensive. Then again, has that ever stopped any of us?

Mr. Hippo reviewed ‘Dear Doctor’ and praised it as the first memorable episode of ENTERPRISE. We all praised Mr. Hippo and bowed down to his grea….oh wait. No we didn’t. That isn’t how it happened at all. That was just how I had it pictured, because I THINK he is the greatest. Maybe not that….way…either.

Sliny brought up a question that has been burned deep in my soul since, who should play ENTERPRISE’s chef? The things you never realize you wanted to know. Suggestions had a wide range, from the popular (Isaac Hayes, or Emeril) to the unpopular (Tony Danza , Balki from Perfect Strangers, or Gary Coleman). I was enthralled, but then I realized I didn’t really care.

Has Goldmember been dismembered? fx7 asked this very important question to start off Sunday. Apparently the title was a little too offensive to the brass in charge of Bond. The title has officially been removed, and AP3 is slightly up in the air at this point. Also, New Line is advertising it as the last great AP adventure, interesting.

Mr. Hippo would breath a huge SIGH of relief when the Patriots and Rams advanced to the Super Bowl. Of Course to all that know him this would only confirm his greatness. The picks would end up leading to Mr. Hippo repeatedly explaining to Clunk how the Rams are better than the Eagles. One would think that not much explanation would be needed since they won 2 times. Anyways, Super Bowl Sunday rolls around very quickly, and for my money, I’d take the 14 and the Pats. Then again, I have thrown away lots of money on needless gambling.

The Rock-n-Roll_Admiral got us off on Monday talking about Neanderthals being quite intelligent, but some people in that thread proved they weren’t. Cyrus summed it up best by saying that Phlox never questioned their intelligence in ‘Dear Doctor’, he was merely asking Capt. Archer how he would have felt if aliens gave them an advantage over us. There is a lot more going on in that thread though, so if you’re interested go on over and read it.

The always-entertaining Ensign-Ro-Your-Boat wanted to know our most memorable TREK references in pop culture. There were some classic references in their including some good parody stuff. Also, Homer realizing what REALLY happened on The Planet of the Apes (The original one) is classic, not sure how that fit in though.

Tuesday was underrated this week, I mean most felt like Wednesday was our best day, but my money is on Tuesday. We had Ro giving us a writer-by-writer break down of the ENTERPRISE staff. All it did was prove to me how little attention I paid to the writing staff. Only on TrekWeb can you see “I dont agree with you regarding the Jacquemettons AT ALL” and know what they were talking about.

Then came the age-old question of who came first, the Romulans or the Vulcans? (Also provided by Ensign-Ro-Your Boat) You can take that however you want to, but my money is on the Vulcans. I just have this feeling you know. I don’t have any proof or memory, but that’s just how I feel.

Then our fearless leader Steve Krutzler wanted to know how TREK rids of all this disease, poverty and war in such a short time. Most felt that it could happen, but somehow cloning, abortion, and sperm made it into the conversation. Yep, it’s always interesting here, that’s for sure.

Then that would bring us to this weeks winner of the SuperThread award. Is the United Federation of Planets patterned after the US Constitution? Doohan wrote this spectacular question, and besides asking us 20 questions about behind the scenes battles on the different TREK shows didn’t have much else to offer. So you would have to say a dark horse definitely won this week. The thing that got us really going in this thread was the right to bear arms. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, people tend to feel pretty strongly about their arms. So really with those topics, who can argue that Tuesday wasn’t the best day?

Wednesday wouldn’t really get rolling until LockAndLoad would say that The Pregnant Man was the worst Episode (I think it was pretty bad, but what about Terra Nova?). Then Ensign-Ro-Your-Boat would announce the winners of the Awards. I must say I had a tough time accepting my awards……oh wait I won nothing. That’s ok everyone that won deserved it. It somehow turned in to some old men wondering what happened to all their friends. Back in my day…..

I would ask why we started a prequel instead of going to a future TREK star date. Most agreed that as long as we had the same creative team behind it as ENTERPRISE it didn’t really matter, and who am I to argue?

A true EntFan would finally break and tell us all to get lives in true Troll fashion that has been missing lately. Admit it, you couldn’t wait to pounce on what he had to say. I think his heart was in the right place; he just needs to realize we are all here because we like TREK. That being said I enjoyed crushing him like a little bug! :)

The inevitable string of thoughts on 'Sleeping Dogs' would roll in Wednesday night and Thursday morning. All in all most would agree that it wasn’t bad, but it was pretty forgettable as an episode, except for the last part. Ummmm……..T’Pol…..Hoshi…..

The two biggies on Thursday were brought to us by he dastardly clever Cymro and Mr. Hippo (was there ever any doubt?) Cymro wanted to know how we would react to a lot more users on TrekWeb? We like our TrekWeb the way it is, we know everyone here (but encourage all of you reading to sign up here). Mr. Hippo would finally go see Lord of The Rings and ask when will it stop Raining? I haven’t seen the movie or read the thread. I know, I know, go see the movie. I promise I will.

It finally brings us to Friday and O.Deus would ask us if it was time to consider some casting changes to ENTERPRISE. This has been a fast moving one and we were all reminded that Kirk, McCoy, and Spock were all males. That answers SO many questions I had. Also, I thought this line was pretty good from trekwriter “If they start replacing or adding actors now, then the terrorists have already won.” Enough said.

Well that about wraps it up for this week. I would like to give out a couple of awards for the week (The BBS Awards show got me thinking, but here it will be totally my opinion). The most frequent poster (for topics) this week goes to Ensign-Ro-Your-Boat. The most underrated topic this week had to be The State of the Union post by Smoking Astronaut. As I said in the opening, people weren’t in the mood for politics this week.

Again, if you’ve got some feedback don’t hesitate to let me hear it (positive or negative). I think I am actually on the contacts page now. I hope you enjoyed the read, and here is to another great week in the TrekWeb BBS.
