The Futon Critic: Despite Promises Otherwise UPN Quickly Becoming CBS 2 |

The Futon Critic has posted an editorial in its Weekly Rant by Brian Ford Sullivan that reports, despite assurances to the contrary, evidence is mounting that UPN is becoming a weak sister to big brother CBS, even to the point of 'hand-me-downs' with the news that UPN will be pairing unaired episodes of the cancelled CBS series "Wolf Lake" with ENT later in this season.
According to Sullivan, "the announcement of the merger between CBS and Viacom in 1999 brought rampant speculation that Viacom subsidiary UPN would eventually shift under the control of CBS. Two months ago, Viacom made that speculation a reality as all of UPN's day-to-day operations were moved under the CBS umbrella, more specifically the control of its president and CEO Les Moonves. Since the announcement Moonves had been particularly quiet about his intentions for the network aside from assuring that he would keep the networks separate identities with separate development teams."
However, "overall by the end of March two hours (or 20%) of UPN's programming will be repurposed CBS series. Moonves said, "There's been some suggestion that UPN will become CBS 2. While we're going to make the most of joint opportunities, it's safe to say that is absolutely not going to happen." It seems that "not going to happen" means "wait two months" to Moonves. Certainly all of these moves were done with the best interest of saving money and increasing ratings for UPN and CBS, nevertheless you have to love catching network executives contradicting themselves in such a short time. Gee, what are the odds of that happening again?"

How would you rate the latest ENT episode, OASIS, on a scale from 1 (bad) to 10 (excellent) in comparison to the best and the worst episodes of the previous Star Trek television series?
