DEEP SPACE NINE stars Rene Auberjonois (appearing in the upcoming ENT episode "Oasis") and Armin Shimmerman attended the Vulkon convention in Orlando over the weekend, and TrekWeb was provided the following report of the event from the Cental Florida STAR TREK fan club, the U.S.S. Benevolence:

Dressed casually in my royal blue USS Benevolence t-shirt, I had just purchased a photo of Barry Morse for Friday Nite's early-bird VULKON autograph session. Backing away from the vendor's table, I turned, stepping forward in my stride to make my way to the signing room. Suddenly a familar face came toward me....I had seen him before on many occasions, but in the excitement of the moment, his name did not come to mind immediately. Instinctively reaching my hand forward in a friendly gesture, my mind labored furiously to bring the familar name to the surface of my attention. Our hands extended, locking into a firm and entusiastic handshake... "Hey, Rene", I blurted out....(suddenly realizing who the familar face belonged to) "How are you....It's great to see you...You look great!"....Not wanting to be unfamiliar, he responded enthusiastically: "Thanks, it's great to see you...You look good yourself."...Breaking my grip, I closed the greeting with: "I'll see you a bit later or tomorrow. We're glad you're here". Spinning around, stepping once again into a brisk pace through the hallway, I smiled....YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!...I had just pressed flesh and personally greeted Louis of Little Mermaid, The (1989) , Father Mulcahy of MASH (1970) , and Odo of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993) WOW!!!!....From that moment, I knew the weekend would be memorable.....(On the other end of the hallways, Rene Auberjonois was probably scratching his head wondering "Who the heck was that guy in the blue t-shirt?"'.....). Doncha just LOVE being a TREKKER!!!!!!

Saturday was exciting. Denise and I won 2nd place in the costume contest with our "Tribute to Crewmembers You Never See". Walking onto the stage to Enterprise's theme "Faith of the Heart", we demonstrated with mops and brooms, the talent and skills of Starfleet's clean-up divisions. Mark was awarded a trophy for his outstanding and stately VULCAN AMBASSADOR costume. He looked very very sharp!

After presentations by the stars and the day's autograph session, we were treated to a one man play by Barry Morse (Lt. Girard of The Fugitive). It was an inimate sharing of the career of a professional actor, intensely and personally committed to delivering quality entertainment to his audience. Proceeds from the play went to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Partying mode was engaged after the play as we meandered through the hotel visiting with friends and other fans. The evening culminated about 11 p.m in the hotel lobby with a crowd seated in a circle, engaged in an informal chat with Armin Shimerman (QUARK). The conversation was sincere, relaxed, and friendly. Mr. Shimmerman listened intensly to the fans and was genuinely attentive to each and every facet of our interests. The evening was remarkable, not to ever be duplicated.

Sunday, Denise and I presented ARMIN SHIMMERMAN with a photo taken earlier that day as he chatted in the hall with other FERENGI (guess who....).

Thanks to the STARS Rene Auberjonois , Armin Shimerman , Barry Morse , Kent McCord , Peter Williams (IV) , and Herb Jefferson Jr. for sharing their time, and their friendship with the fans.

Thanks to the KLINGONS of K.L.A.W. ( Klingon Legion of Assault Warriors ) for their WARPED CORE, a presentation of a KLINGON celestial lounge and bar "Where everyone knows your name" was fantastic...great props, terrific lighting, good humor, and gracious hosts!....Terrific work!

Thanks to MEG and the crew of Tampa Bay's independent vessel IKV Honor's Blade for their informal party in room 108...(yeh, we remember...).

Thanks to the hotel, Hilton Orlando/Altamonte Springs, for providing a terrific environment and great service for the Con.

The Creation Entertainment Grand Slam X super-con in Pasadena, CA also took place this weekend, and the official site has a recap of Day One's events, including an appearance by NEMESIS actress Gates McFadden, who said of the film just completed:

"I really think it (Nemesis) is going to be great. For me, it's the most enjoyable of the Star Trek films I've done so far."

For the full report of the Dealer's Room and some photos, check out this page.

More coverage of the Grand Slam event, including an appearance by ENTERPRISE co-executive producer Brannon Braga is forthcoming.
