JUNCTION POINT: NOT JUST ANOTHER PBeM RPG! Junction Point is a freefloating space station that is located in that
dark area between Gorn, Tholian, and Klingon space, within a whiff of
the Romulan Empire. K7, as we call it, is adjacent to Sherman's
Planet, where, just 76 years before, the tribble incident took place.
We're set in the year 2380, after the Borg encounters and the Dominion
War, at the very end of the ST-TV timelines. This is a very fastpaced
game composed of a solid base of experienced and expert players, some
of them professionally published in the SF-Fantasy genre. Our location
is junction.the-fgn.org and we're always ready to welcome a few
new players into our warm and friendly community. If our roster appears full at the positions that interest you, don't
let that discourage you from joining. There's enough posting for
duplications in Senior Officer positions and the imagination's the
limit on civilian and other personnel.
We're expecting to be around for a long time, so if you come, plan to stay! We can be reached by clicking Contact Administration or Joining the Game on our site.

The official STAR TREK site reported late yesterday that Viacom Consumer Products is teaming with new licensee Virtual-Convention LLC in conjunction with convention promoter Creation Entertainment and a Munich-based software firm a "virtual convention-going experience" called Vir-Con 2002.
Utilizing 3D technology, Vir Con will present a virtual reality version of Creation's August 2-4 Las Vegas convention, mimicking the convention along with a live video feed from the event.
"We couldn't be more excited to see the Star Trek convention content brought to the fans of the world," said Pam Newton, vice-president of marketing and licensing at VCP. "The virtual Star Trek convention will provide fans who can't attend the convention in person an opportunity to participate online."
Registered visitors will be able to choose a 3D "persona," which will include alien species from the series, and can browse the virtual convention hall and puruse the licensed merchandise to purchase as well as the guests on stage.
Pricing is yet to be announced but will be based somewhat like real tickets to the events, based on what activities attendees want access to, including a reduced-price video feed-only package. The software is currently set to be able to house up to 100,000 guests and the Vir-Con will open its lobby doors for a free trial in June of this year.

UPDATE 15:51 EDT
TrekWeb has had an opportunity to preview the Virtual Convention and would like to offer some introductory insights. After a short download, you are transported into the virtual convention hall that resembles something you might have been in any of the recent STAR TREK computer games. As a "virtual attendee," you can execute various behaviors in interacting with the other virtual visitors, even the famous Vulcan "Live Long and Propser" salute.
There will be twelve rooms in all that you can easily navigate through. Almost simpler than many first-person computer games you may be familiar with, the environment is easily navigable with the mouse alone. Pressing the button and dragging up takes you forward, down takes you backward. The interface is actually very intuitive and on a high-speed connection, very fluid.
Obviously the real gem here is going to be the integration of live video feeds via satellite of a real Creation Entertainment convention and the guests on stage. After entering a "Grand Ballroom" virutal attendees will be presented with the video feed and actually be able to interact with the live audience, asking questions via the live camera crew and producing team in Las Vegas.
Virtual-Con's chairman Vito Montone tells TrekWeb that the pricing scheme for this brand new STAR TREK experience will be released shortly and he promises it'll be affordable for everyone with all different packages available. Working with the convention promoters and Viacom Consumer Products, the Virtual-Con will liberate fans from the constraints of actually physically attending an event across the world and allow thousands more fans to access the fun and excitement of a STAR TREK event.
Currently the company is anticipating its preview launch on June 1st and its first event August 2-4. Montone says they want to concentrate on the very largest STAR TREK events each year for now, perhaps limiting the virtual-con experience for STAR TREK to two or three events a year.
