Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

Dept: TrekWeb Features
At TrekWeb this July is Build the Board Month! Our bulletin board -- the STAR TREK BBS -- has been expanded with brand new forums and we invite you to join the discussion with your fellow fans in exchange for a chance to win one of several FREE copies of the upcoming STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN Director's Edition DVD!
If you've lurked at TrekWeb for any length of time, you know that we've traditionally operated a large, single forum where just about any type of discussion goes on. Over the five and a half years TrekWeb's been in operation, the board has gained a reputation for intense discussion and a community of loyal posters.
Now we're trying to build our community even more by adding several new forums, where new and old users alike can meet and discuss far-ranging topics from THE ORIGINAL SERIES to ENTERPRISE. Each forum will develop its own personality but adding additional discussion areas will help facilitate the introduction of new users into a sometimes-cluttered bulletin board. We've also added new, color-coded graphics for each of our seven forums so you can easily see what the topic of discussion is and what forum you're on.
The two most important topics among STAR TREK fans these days are the fifth series, ENTERPRISE, which enjoyed a successful first season and is just beginning production on its second, and the tenth feature film, STAR TREK: NEMESIS coming to theaters December 13th. So we've specifically designed two new discussion forums for topics related to these current TREK productions.
The Suliban Helix forum welcomes any and all discussions about ENTERPRISE. From Bakula's Archer to Trip's underwear to Andorian antennae, this is where you can share opinions on the latest series, debate the latest episode rumors, and post your own ideas for the show.
The Romulan Senate is now in session for NEMESIS discussion and with the brand new teaser trailer all over the Internet and blasting into theaters this July 4th weekend, there's never been more interest in the newest STAR TREK movie! So whether you've read the script or not, use this forum to share your excitement -- or trepidation -- about the TNG crew's latest big screen adventure.
We know many fans have questions about STAR TREK technology and now there's an entire forum just for those topics -- The Shipyards. Talk about your favorite Starship Enterprise design, or find try to figure out what the correct warp speed scale is. You might even be surprised who peruses this forum from time to time, answering technological questions from a position of Trekker authority!
We've also renamed our current boards to fit the new theme of welcoming new users and developing a more diverse community of participants. The long-familiar Central/Main board is now the Shore Leave forum, reflecting the relaxed atmosphere of the general discussion area where you will continue to be able to discuss the first four STAR TREK series and first nine feature films, as well as other entertainment or science fiction topics, as well as off-topic posts relating to politics, current events, or even the occassionally divisive religious debate.
There have never been more new, quality STAR TREK products on the market -- from feature film special editions to ST:TNG seasons on DVD to numerous new STAR TREK novels being released every month! You can talk about all the subjects that populate the great material continuum in the Divine Treasury forum (formerly the Gaming/Books BBS)!
STAR TREK fans always have their own ideas for a great new story and you can share your own fan fiction or read others' in the appropriately-named Holodeck forum!
Finally, it's inevitable that from time to time you'll have a question about TrekWeb, the STAR TREK BBS, or a problem you're having. For these important messages, use the Ready Room forum, which is our Support board. Check this area for announcements about the site or to report a bug you're experiencing. This is also where fellow STAR TREK BBS members can come to settle a score or talk privately. So if you've "Got a question for Hippo," deal with it here in the captain's Ready Room.
Post to Win!
We want our online community to grow and to do it we need YOU. As a special invitation to all those visitors who haven't taken the time to join the BBS discussion yet, TrekWeb is giving away several copies of the new STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN Director's Edition DVD -- all you have to do is post!
Between now and August 2nd, 2002, the first fifty new members who originate a topic (in any forum excluding the Ready Room) that generates replies from at least ten different members will be entered into an exclusive drawing to win the DVDs! This includes existing members who may have registered an account with TrekWeb some time ago but haven't posted on the boards within the last six months. With a pool that small, the odds of winning are that much higher!
The only stipulation is that both the original thread and its replies must be of a substantive* nature. This means, among other things, it must pertain to the forum's proper topic of discussion and the replies must contribute to the conversation rather than register a mere "I agree" or "That's funny" response. There's no automatic "ranking" system here at TrekWeb, so populating topics with unsubstantive posts won't earn you anything but the contempt of your fellow members.
But if you think we're making it easy, think again. If you want others to respond to your thread you'll have to participate in more than just your own topics and it may take more than just one original thread to get ten people to reply. So post early, post often!
Learning the Ropes
We realize that many visitors may not be familiar with how the forums operate, so here's a quick course in using the STAR TREK BBS.
The first thing you'll need to master is getting around the BBS. But thanks to TrekWeb's left-hand menu (pictured below), getting around is easy. For new users, your first destination will be the STAR TREK BBS Home page. You can reach this from the menu by clicking directly on the Star Trek BBS Forums button under the Community menu. You will need to visit this page to register your nickname and learn about the available forums. You can also use the Register / Forums Info button inside the Star Trek BBS Forums submenu to reach this page.
As shown in the picture above, you can also reach any forum from the Community-->Star Trek BBS Forums menu. This menu is available on all the forum pages as well, so if you're in the Suliban Helix and need to jump onto Shore Leave to discuss the episode of TNG you caught on TNN last night, all you have to do is point and click.
Once you've created your account and nickname and chosen a forum to participate in, you'll need to be familiar with the Forums Toolbar. Located under the Your Account/Newsletters box on all the BBS pages is the text link bar pictured here. Click on "Post New" to originate a topic on the forum. Click "Refresh List" to refresh the list of available discussions. Click "Help" or "Usage Policies" to review those resources. These links are the same on every forum and make it easy to utilize multiple boards.
Once you post a new message or visit someone else's, your account will automatically keep track of that thread each time you refresh the message list. If there have been new replies since the last time you read the topic, the system will identify that topic with a red "(new)" flag.
Viewing threads is convenient on the STAR TREK BBS, with three viewing options available. You can choose from flat, threaded and nested views. In flat mode all replies will appear directly underneath each other in either ascending or descending order. You can choose threaded to view all replies to a message as links to click on, or nested to view all replies on the same page but indented hierarchically according to the order of reply.
To change your default forum view setting edit your profile after creating your account; you can do so by clicking the "Profile" link in the Your Account/Newsletters box on all pages or visiting the Community-->Member Services menu.
Get Started!
Could this be any easier? Post to win and have fun becoming a STAR TREK BBS regular participant while you're at it! We hope that you'll help us build the boards and create a unique online community here at TrekWeb and the STAR TREK BBS. Visit www.startrekbbs.com now to get started!
*Posts not eligible include but are not limited to: posts with excessive profanity, posts attacking other users, posts violating the Usage Policies, posts that lack substantive discussion as determined within reason by the TrekWeb staff.
**Users found to be posting with multiple accounts or old users found to be posting with a new account will not be eligible.
