Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

Dept: Gaming
Speaking with GameSpy, Activision producer Daniel Hagerty talks about the third game in the STARFLEET COMMAND series, slated to bring the game into the TNG-movie-era and tie into the events in this December's STAR TREK: NEMESIS.
"The new setting for Starfleet Command III is one of the biggest changes, and one of the most attractive, in our opinion," Hagerty says. "The events of the game take place shortly before the events of Paramount's upcoming Star Trek: Nemesis motion picture. The basic storyline was a collaborative effort between Taldren and Activision. It was a great opportunity to bring together various perspectives and design ideas, and we emerged with a compelling, epic story worthy of the best Star Trek has to offer."
But he's quick to point out SFC3 is not a movie game that merely tracks the story of the film: "The plot and storyline of the game center around a conspiracy to destroy a new starbase created jointly by the Klingons and the Federation. At the beginning of the game, the alliance between the Klingons and the Federation has never been stronger. The two powers are enjoying good relations, and, for the time being, the Borg no longer threaten the Alpha Quadrant."
The third game in the popular series will maintain the style of slow combat gamers expect from the massive starships featured in STAR TREK.
"Star Trek is a universe of massive capital ships, staffed by crews of hundreds, if not thousands, of people. Many of these ships are hundreds of meters long, and contain multiple weapons and systems. When they fight, it isn't always prudent or wise to have these massive craft speeding around each other. They fight in a naval, rather than aerial, way, much like ships in the "Age of Sail" period of European history."
The user interface has been redesigned to make SFC3 the most accessible entry in the series yet.
"Ship schematics for the player's ship and enemy ships will stay up all the time, showing damage, status of weapons, shields, etc. They are interactive, so, with the click of a button players can modify shield reinforcement, select weapons to fire, etc. There is one multi-function display on screen (as opposed to three in SFC 2) and this houses some of the more advanced functions."
As with previous versions, players will be able to customize their own starship fleets.
"The greatest thing about it is that it gives players, particularly Star Trek fans, the chance to get their hands dirty creating ships to match their playing styles. It adds a whole new element of depth to both the Dynaverse and the single-player campaign. Players may find themselves wanting to replay the single-player campaigns in different ship configurations, just to see what it's like! Players can also try out any combination of weapons and systems by playing the Skirmish mode, where they can assign all players (and AI) a set amount of prestige to work with."
To read more about the RPG elements of the game, the new graphics engine that allows more more details battle damage animations, the different alien campaign characterisitics and the Dynaverse 3 capabilities, check out the extensive original article.
