Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses, bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices, check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away from home.

Speaking with Out America actress Kate Mulgrew talks about her successful one-woman play TEA AT FIVE and gay characters in STAR TREK. Written by gay playwright Matthew Lombardo, the play follows the life of screen legend Katherine Hepburn; Lombardo had the idea after seeing Mulgrew's "Hepburnesque" presence in an episode of STAR TREK: VOYAGER one day.

Mulgrew tells the magazine that she was particularly concerned about Captain Janeway as the first female captain in STAR TREK lore. She says she was very cognizant of the Hollywood stereotype where "...you can't have the independence without the bitch [in typical Hollywood depictions]. I transcended that with Janeway," she declares. "And nothing gives me greater pleasure than to say that I believe I was the only actress doing that on prime time. Her humanity, her warmth. I've often used the expression, 'I did not 'drop trou'.' I had no intension of doing so. And I don't think I ever lost my whimsy, my compassion. My deep love for the crew," she says.

She says the portrayal of Janeway was something inherent in STAR TREK's vision of the future.

"This is inherent in the concept of Star Trek that Gene Roddenberry had conceived. Though I'm sure--Gene Roddenberry was quite the womanizer--and I'm sure he never imaged a woman in the captain's seat. So my hats off to the brass at Paramount, they had a lot of money to lose. And they changed the course of television history with that move."

Mulgrew also says she campaigned for the inclusion of a gay regular character during her time on VOYAGER.

"One would think that Hollywood would be more open-minded at this point, since essentially the whole town is run by the gay community," she says frankly. "It makes very little sense if you think about it. No, Star Trek is very strangely by the book in this regard. Rick Berman, who is a very sagacious man, has been very firm about certain things. I've approached him many, many times over the years about getting a gay character on the show--one whom we could really love, not just a guest star. Y'know, we had blacks, Asians, we even had a handicapped character--and so I thought, this is now beginning to look a bit absurd. And he said, "In due time." And so, I'm suspecting that on Enterprise they will do something to this effect. I couldn't get it done on mine. And I am sorry for that."
