Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

Cinescape reports today that toy maker Polar Lights has won a new STAR TREK model kit license and will begin producing in early 2003. The license was previously held by AMT/ERTL, who dropped it after sales of models had trickled off by the time 1998's STAR TREK: INSURRECTION arrived. Now with the fifth series entering its second season there is a renewed interest in TREK model kits and Polar Lights is well equipped to take on the challenge.
Cinescape reports that the STAR TREK license, which has yet to be announced officially, will kick off next year with an 11" original Enterprise NCC-1701 model that even includes optional parts to reconfigure the model to match either the pilot or eventual production configuration of the ship. In addition, a two-foot model of the newest Enterprise, the NX-01, will follow.
"Our hope is to reach both the novice modeler and the experienced builder with two lines of Starships," Polar Lights' Dave Metzner said in a post on their web site forum. "We are, indeed, doing a 1:350th NX-01, we HOPE that this will be the first in a series of several Starships in that scale. These kits will be Skill level 2 or 3 and will be designed for the more experienced modeller. We are also planning a line of 1:1000 scale ships as well."
Metzer also revealed that designer Thomas Sasser will be designing these new TREK model kits. Polar Lights is the model kit brand under Playing Mantis, Inc., a nostalgic toy and collectible maker. The company began in 1993 when founder Tom Lowe acquired the trademark rights to reproduce miniature die-cast Johnny Lightning cars that had been made previously by another toy maker that had collapsed in the early seventies. By 1994, the company had released the first line of Johnny Lightning cars. Since then, Playing Mantis has become one of the largest miniature die-cast manufacturers, acquiring numerous licenses and branching into model kits with FORBIDDEN PLANET and GODZILLA, among others. The company has even won the 1999 Toy Shop Readers' Award for Best Model Kit Manufacturer, according to its web site.
