Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
The first official review of STAR TREK NEMESIS is in and Hollywood trade paper Variety has called the tenth TREK picture "unambitious" and "like a slightly suped-up episode of the "Next Generation" TV series."
Reviewer Scott Foundas finds praise for both the performances of Patrick Stewart and Tom Hardy, as well as a few scenes in particular: "In pic's best moments, director Stuart Baird works these fragments into a kind of autumnal grandeur, particularly a marvelous dinner scene between Picard and Shinzon that is in the full spirit of the best, Nicolas Meyer-helmed "Trek" adventures."
Variety also says many of the nods to fans written by John Logan, like the wedding of Riker and Troi, suffers too much from the "cutes."
In perhaps the most negative note of the review, Foundas questions whether the five-day gap before LORD OF THE RINGS can save NEMESIS from the lowes box office since 1989's STAR TREK V and it's $50 million domestic total.
Foundas criticizes the lack of additional set pieces in NEMESIS, such as Ten-Forward or the Holodeck, but calls Stewart's performance "regal," saying he alone "elevates this project above run-of-the-mill -- his thunderous, veddy British delivery imbuing every utterance, be it a choice quoting of Corinthians or a mouthful of techno-jargon, with inescapable weight."
The full review is available here with a 30-day trial subscription to Variety.
Over at Popular Mechanics magazine, reviewier Jim Wilson has a different take on NEMESIS, saying the film "will please longtime fans and film buffs alike." In his short review, Wilson praises the film's special effects and production design, writing, "People who enjoy films that are technically well crafted will find much to appreciate in "Nemesis." Director of photography Jeffrey L. Kimball's camera work combined with Herman Zimmerman's production design give the film a feeling of contemporary realism." He also praises the editing work of editor Dallas Puett in the film.
