Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses, bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices, check us out. Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis

Early reviews are trickling in as Paramount took out large advertising spreads for STAR TREK NEMESIS in both the L.A. Times and New York Times Sunday editions. Naturally all are positive quotes, and here's a run down:

"**** (4 stars) Large-scale...Intense Energy..." Steve Krutzler, TREKWEB.COM (available Friday)

"Action, intensity, and loads of fun!" Bill Bregoli, Westwood One.

"More than just a great Star Trek film-it's just a great film," Mark S. Allen, KMAX-TV/UPN, Sacramento.

"Nemesis is Star Trek at it's absolute best! Spellbindng, amazing, and flawless... It beams the excitement to a whole new level," Earl Dittman, Wireless Magazines.

"Full of dark surprises with a brilliant ending!" Sandy Davis, Daily Oklahoman.

"Probably the best Star Trek film yet, and it's not just for the fans," Jason Rich, Star Trek Communicator.

"Not since Wrath of Kahn has Star Trek been so good," Dan Deevey, Inent.com.

"A darker and edgier Trek," Tim Wassberg, Inside Reel.

"A tremendous Christmas treat," Audrey Berard, Radioscope.

"Star Trek Nemesis is a thrilling adventure that will have your heart racing at warp speed," Tony Toscano, KJZZ-TV/IND, Salt Lake City.

"One of the best Star Trek journeys ever. The crew returns in one of its most unique journeys. This intergalatic adventure has it all: cast, effects, and a great story," Jim Ferguson, KMSB-TV/FOX, Tucson.

"Most exciting Star Trek since Wrath of Kahn," Larry Evans, Space News.

"Great action sequences," Katie O'Grady, KPTV-TV/ABC, Portland.

"Great stuff for virgin Trekkies. Jean Luc Picard is one sexy beast," Jade Alexander, WFOR-TV/CBS, Miami.

"Even if you aren't a sci-fi fan, you'll love Star Trek Nemesis," Guy Ferris, NWCN, Seattle.

"A new frontier in action movies. Brilliant!" Liam Mayclem, KRON-TV/IND, San Francisco.

"One heck of a thrilling ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat," Bonnie Laufer, Tribute TV, Canada.

"Goes where no Star Trek movie has gone before," Thomas Chau, Cinema Confidential.

"Beam aboard for tons of action and lots of fun!" Neil Rosen, NY1.

"The franchise is alive and healthy. Warp speed to theaters," Mose Persico, Entertainment Spotlight, CTV Montreal.

"The best Trek in years," Steve Iervolino, Launch Radio Networks.

"A great adventure Star Trek fans will love!" Victoria Snee, KDAF-TV/Dallas.

"I liked it better than Star Wars," David Moss, WJW-TV/Fox Cleveland.

"The best Next Generation film yet. Brent Spiner may be the first Star Trek actor to draw legitimate Oscar consideration," Teddy Durgin, Flickville.com.

"...Exciting...Inventive Twist - plus the unexpected...shoot sparks of surprise throught the picture," Gene Shalit, The Today Show

Thanks to 'Batal' and 'Cyrus' for the quotes.

The Box Office Prophets have also chimed in on the Holiday movie season, reminding readers that opening weekend box office performance isn't the only test of a film's staying power this time of year, as moviegoers may skip opening weekends and take in films during Holiday vacation. There are several contributors to the December predictions, some (but not all) having seen the film:

    • David Mumpower: "I'll state with confidence that the movie should satisfy its core audience immensely. That feat alone is enough to put it on top of Generations and Insurrection; however, the potential exists for this movie to be every bit as well received as Best of Both Worlds or The Voyage Home. The storyline is that unique and clever."
    • Tim Briody: "...while the storyline appears to be light years better than 1998's Insurrection, it could easily misfire badly and there are still doubts about the life of the franchise. But given the recent opening of Die Another Day and the nature of the beast in general, it also wouldn't be unreasonable for this to be the biggest Trek film ever."
    • Kim Hollis: "As far as box office performance goes, the Star Trek films have been up and down, and I’m afraid this one might suffer from a decline in interest over the past several years. Despite that fact, it’s going to have middling box office returns as the die-hard fans will almost assuredly turn out along with the mildly curious."

You can reach the prophecies, which include other films like THE TWO TOWERS and THE HOT CHICK here.

Business Week covers the release of NEMESIS today with an analysis of the film's box office prospects. Writer Ronald Grover presents an historical perspective on the previous nine TREK feature films and explains why Paramount is sinking upwards of $40 million into the marketing campaign for the film, despite the fact that the last film was an underperformer and only one TREK movie has ever crossed the $100 million domestic mark (the usual sign of a blockbuster).

"It's going to be tough for Nemesis to break through the clutter of some really big films," says Paul Dergaradebian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations in the article. Grover says Viacom is hoping the hoopla surrounding the tenth feature will boost DVD sales of the previous flicks and help UPN and TNN in the ratings game. "To a media giant like Viacom, sometimes one plus one really does equal three," he writes.

Rick Berman talks about the desire to build up a hunger for the film by waiting four years and says despite stiff competition from LORD OF THE RINGS just five days after release, he thinks NEMESIS has excellent prospects this Holiday season.

"You know that they are going to go see at least two movies over those two weeks," Berman says. "We figure at lot of them will come to see ours."

AICN just gave their review and it was not a good one. Probably one of the worst I've read. Of course he loved attack of the clones.

I thought this was an interesting review.
From what it says as usual, Riker, Beverly and Geordi have nothing to do and it is the Picard and Data show. Not surprisingly since Spiner shares story credit.

Did all those reviewers really misspell Wrath of Khan? And did Paramount publish them that way?

They put that in their advertisements? Wow, isn't that showing a bit of an inferiority complex? :D

    Meaningless Reviews
    By Tom () at 15:31:15 on December 09 2002

These seem to be the usual no-name reviewers who think every thing is the "best ever". Even an awful (and almost unanimously panned) film like "Analyze That" has some reviewer claiming its "one of the best of the year". I thought it amusing that some of the reviewers are Paramount/Viacom mouthpieces whose livelihoods depend on how well the film does.

Nemesis may likely be a great film, but I wouldn't go to see "Citizen Kane" based on reviews from the likes that group. Reveiwers like Ebert, AO Scott, Elvis Mitchell (NYTimes), etc. have reputations to keep. I'd be more interested in what they have to say.

    Who are these people?

I don't see a single reviewer I've ever heard from on this list. Does anyone else? No Siskel & Ebert, Joel Siegel, or the like. I'm thinking that's a bad thing.

There was a scandal a few years back when it turned out one of the studios had quotes like these attributed to a reviewer that didn't actually exist! It wouldn't surprise me if that still happened nowadays.

Did Janeway make the cut, Steve??
    By teiresias () at 14:00:09 on December 09 2002

Sorry for kinda hijacking the thread, but with all the talk of the cutting I don't remember hearing if Janeway's appearance was still in the film or not. I'd assume Steve would know for sure since he's seen it. So is she there? For my own personal safety I'll keep to myself whether I think it's a good thing or bad thing that she is possibly in the movie :)

To keep slightly on topic: good reviews, glad to hear Steve liked it, though his tastes and mine are pretty far apart (I love FC and feel Generations would have been better off being based on the novel "Federation")

All these reviews just talk about action. But when i read screenplay long time ago (i couldnt resist), it wasnt the action and that won me over, but those final 6 pages of script. I am so affraid that everything was cut out
