Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
Michael Snyder of The Miami Herald is mostly positive on NEMESIS, writing "Nemesis has plot holes the size of photon-torpedo hull breaches. Flaws aside, there are enough notable character moments and warp-speed action scenes to endorse this voyage of the Starship Enterprise. Capt. Jean-Luc Picard (a dignified, imposing Patrick Stewart) leads a mission to broker peace between the noble Federation and the scurrilous Romulan Empire." Check out the full article here.
Over at the Tampa Tribune NEMESIS is awarded a grade of C-: "The mind games are nothing compared to the extended duel to the death between the good guys and the sneaky, lizardlike dudes who work for Shinzon... This fight involves photon torpedoes blasting into force fields while opposing crews take turns sneaking on to each other's ships by transporter or mini-cruiser. There's plenty of time for hand-to-hand combat, too, but our favorite attack method is the old- fashioned ramming of one hull into another." Read more here.
Spliced Online's Bob Blackwelder is mixed, giving the film 2/4 stars, saying the action outweighs the film's dramatic potential: "This character-driven storyline is quite engrossing as the yin and yang minds of Shinzon and Picard come to blows. Hardy gives a cunning, zealous performance, skillfully combining some of Stewart's physical traits with an intelligent malevolence and a contradictory, childlike desire to learn more about the man he was meant to be. He's so good it makes you feel even sorrier for the loyal "Trek" cast members regulated to cartoonish or cardboard-prop supporting roles... It would be much simpler just to sum up by saying "Star Trek: Nemesis" had the potential to rival to franchise high water marks like "The Wrath of Khan," "The Undiscovered Country" and "First Contact," but that potential is squandered by the infusion of overwrought, uninspired action that takes precedence over the palpable drama inherent in the plot." Reach the full commentary here.
One Guy's Opinion's Frank Swietek is decidedly negative, saying "the latest installment of the "Next Generation" series of movies, proves pretty much a bust--a tired, derivative picture that suggests it's time to put at least this crew of Trekkers into well-deserved retirement... Stewart, as is his custom, declaims Picard's lines with an oracular air that turns virtually all his scenes into bad Shakespearean parody; and in this instance he's pretty much matched by young Hardy, who makes every effort to mimic his precise diction and stentorian style... It would be best if "Nemesis" were truly Picard's last hurrah; he and the Enterprise bunch all appear to have run out of gas and would be best put out to pasture." Check out that full review here.
Reviewer Bill Warren at Audio Revolution is more positive, giving the film three stars and saying it's good but not great: "Although it seems a shade less epic than some of the previous Trek outings, "Nemesis" is a handsome movie, as photographed by Jeffrey L. Kimball and designed by Herman Zimmerman. The excellent score is by the reliable Jerry Goldsmith. The sound quality is as expected for a big-scale space adventure, with propulsion devices roaring, metal creaking, and various weapons blasting, humming and/or wreaking other kinds of aural havoc. It has sweeping multi-channel sound, and really should be seen in a theater, no matter how swell your home system is, at least if you like the sort of thing in the first place." Check out this page.
ReelViews's James Berardinelli gives NEMESIS 2.5/4 stars but is mostly negative: "There was a time when I would have been sad to see the Star Trek movie series end. With Star Trek: Nemesis, however, it has become apparent that the franchise's best years are long past. The trailers and TV spots tout this movie as "a generation's final journey," and that may be an accurate statement. Idea-based storylines, which have always been Star Trek's forte, no longer seem to be relevant. And mutating the series into the kind of action-oriented endeavor evidenced here is a disservice to Star Trek and its fans. Star Trek: Nemesis will not send the Enterprise crew out on a high note, but at least they'll be spared the ignominy of becoming redundant, which could happen if Paramount decides to make a Star Trek XI." Check out the full article here.
UPDATE 13:18 EST: One more review, this one mostly positive (B-) from Latino Review's Ron Henriques, who says the movie satisfies but not to its full potential: "Star Trek Nemesis' story starts off very interesting but soon segues into memorable territory. Anyone familiar with some of the stories from the series will get a sense of deja vu. The average audience is not made up of Trekkies and they will probably enjoy the twist and turns of the plot. The visual effects by Digital Domain are handsomely done. They don't compare to the previous work from ILM on past features, but who can aford ILM these days? I just wish more ingenuity went into the effects and the battle sequences involving the Enterprise and Shinzon's cloaked warship. I wanted some of the energy and wit that went into their fighting tactics like in "The Wrath of Khan." We get to see the Enterprise take quite a licking, but after seeing an Enterprise blow up in "The Search For Spock" we're all used to it and know they can fix her up in no time." Check out the complete review here.

I had high hopes with this movie but the undelying problem, it seems, from what I have read, is that Paramount doesnt know where to go with Trek in general. They have proven this with Enterprise.
If Spiner and Stewart would just come in and do their roles instead of insisting on story credit we might get a more interesting movie. Stewart with Insurrection and Spiner with Nemeis) then we might have a decent movie.
Of course I have not seen it but with LOTRs coming out, S.T can use all the help it can get.
I will be going to a Sunday matinee instead of opening night.
