Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
The Chicago Tribune's Michael Wilmington becomes one of the first critics to err more on the positive side in its review of STAR TREK NEMESIS. Awarding the pic 2 1/2 out of four stars, Wilmington says the picture is anything but flawless but has all the right elements to make it a successful outing.
"Nemesis is a deep-space overachiever that tries to conquer the universe again on a diminished budget and ship-bound settings," he writes. "...the moviemakers here attack us at our weak emotional spots with nostalgia, special effects, coruscating action and auld lang syne."
Wilmington says NEMESIS is easily superior to 1998's "vacuous" INSURRECTION and suggests it is nearly as emotionally-resonant as STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN.
The Tribune also likes Patrick Stewart and Tom Hardy, saying "The core of the film is the father-son battle between Picard and Shinzon, and as Stewart plays against the talented young Hardy as his clone, we get both combat and a sense of longing and regret," and calling Shinzon one of the TREK film series' "major heavies."
Wilmington says he's no fan of the other three TNG movies but NEMESIS sparks feelings of old: "As a pop phenomenon, "Star Trek" was notable because its stories were more than sci-fi hardware. They emphasized ideas and parallels with the present, and this movie tries to revive that idealism, even though most of the feeling it ends up quickening is for the series itself. Yet it's nice to catch a bit of that mood again, to feel connected to the long-spanned TV and movie past "Star Trek" always evokes."

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution isn't quite as pleased with the film, rating it a C and filling its review with contradiction: "The overall feel of the film is pretty cheesy, but there's still a real sense that the "Star Trek" tradition has been honored as best it can, given the embarrassing script and weak direction... The picture's most interesting theme is the idea of a doppelgänger, a kind of twin. There are Picard and Shinzon, first of all, but also Data and a childlike earlier model known as B-4, and then the Romulans and Remans themselves, their names a reference to mythical twin founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus." I read the Tribune review, and it seems very positive. But at the bottom of the review, it said "2.5 stars out of 4", which was very disappointing particularly because Steve noted it as 3.5 stars in his synopsis! What gives?

*** spoilers possibly ****
So, let me get this straight. TPTB decided that keeping Data's singing of "Blue Skies" (which is cheesy according to the review) would be better than having the more serious Picard/Data drink together?
The only thing I can see is that the soundtrack had already been done w/ Blue Skies at the end and didn't want to change it.

OK, I'm a Chicagoan and I read Wilmington's reviews with a fair amount of regularity. I have to say I'm very surprised at how positive it is.
To me, Wilmington tends to review as if he's comparing the movie he's critiquing to some obscure film that cinema students are forced to watch. However, there's none of that at all here. He sticks to the feelings elicited by the movie, but still puts it in the context of previous Trek movies and the series themselves.
I have to say that I don't often agree with Wilmington's pretentious reviews. I sincerely hope that I'll agree with him this once.
Now all I have to do is try to take a half day off tomorrow and catch the early show. :)

How would you rate the latest ENT episode, THE CATWALK, on a scale from 1 (bad) to 10 (excellent) in comparison to the best and the worst episodes of all previous Star Trek episodes?
