Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
USA Today reports on the STAR TREK NEMESIS debut today, reiterating the fact that the film's $18.5 million opening weekend is the lowest for the franchise when previous grosses are adjusted for inflation. But Paramount vice chairman Rob Friedman says the studio isn't worried.
"The numbers fell in the range we were hoping for, and it was essentially a dead heat for No. 1," he says. "More importantly, fans liked it, and we think that will carry it through the holidays."
USA Today also reports that movie pollsters Cinemascore say NEMESIS has rated an A- with moviegoers, putting it only behind STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME and STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN in the opinion wars.
The article also states that if NEMESIS takes in $55 million domestically, it will bring the TREK franchise to a grand total beyond the JURRASSIC PARK franchise's $767.3 million domestic box office total. Only STAR WARS and 007 have made more money with moviegoers.
Producer Rick Berman says, "Star Trek is a lot bigger than a TV show or a film franchise," although it is unclear whether this remark is in response to the NEMESIS opening weekend.

Why Friday the 13th? Why not a week earlier? Viacom just had to pick Friday the 13th to release a major franchise...darn Viacom to hell!

It's all Viacom...

Remember Gulf+Western? The parent company of Paramount for a pretty LONG time...until stupid Viacom came along and bought the entire studio for $10 billion dollars. I blame all of Star Trek problems on Viacom.
Reason 1: Under Gulf+Western management, Paramount produced ST 1 through 7. Fans and non-fans agree that the best of Star Trek are from those 7 films.
Reason 2: Gulf+Western was an indutrial company. They didn't know jack about entertainment, so they left all the decision to Paramount and Gene and his team of gifted people. As to Viacom, a giant in entertainment, bossing everyone around...
Reason 3: Since Viacom is such a big company with assets over billions, you think that they can spend some money on one of their subsidiary's movie. But NO! Not Viacom! Not a single dime! Paramount had to pay for everything! Viacom COULD have spend more money in advertisment! Darn that company to hell!
Reason 4: Similar to 3 but here goes: Viacom can spend stupid money on shows like the Amazing Race, Survivors on CBS but not on Paramount! WHAT THE DEVIL ARE THEY DOING? THEY JUST WANTED TO BUY A COMPANY AND STARVE IT TO DEATH!? WHAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF BUYING IT IF THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!?
So I say: Darn Viacom to hell!!!!

Maybe Paramount over all should give more to the franchise to get something back. Just giving us half assed Trek instead of Great Trek is not really giving it their all.
They have been lazy with Trek for a long time.

Now is the time to make a crucial decision as far as our involvement in the Star Trek universe as fans. Our voices have been heard (whether you like Nemesis or not, whether you like Enterprise or not). Things will be different in the Star Trek universe, stories will be different and the direction of the new shows will be a departure from what the creators considered a developed path. So now it is up to us, the fans, to make our stand. Let us show the world, who in the past few days have seen a fan base divided and a shadow (in my opinion, unfairly) cast over the universe that we have each invested so much of our time, of our hearts, that Star Trek will live forever, that it is very much alive and kicking. Support Star Trek. Voice your criticisms but show your support. Each of us would not post our opinions on this website if we didn't care, so that is not the issue whether we care. It is simply a matter of defending by a show of support, the Star Trek that we love.
Let us come together, let us quibble about the finite details later but make sure we do not miss this opportunity to give back to Paramount and Star Trek something for giving is the chance to live in that world for all these years!
Thanks...

There's still hope

Now, now, in the words of Liv Tyler in the trailer for The Two Towers, "There's still hope". Yeah, The Two Towers will dominate all talk and headlines, but I still think Trek's still going to make some impact at the box office- they'll still be in the top ten, and if the film has got legs as Paramount is hoping, then hey, anything can happen...Nemesis has nearly a $20 million head start, so we'll see what impact, if any, The Two Towers has.

Rick Berman's new PR spin on a flop

That's right, you prick. Star Trek is not movies or tv shows. It's a tacky Vegas exhibition, its videogames, its merchandising, its subpar paperbacks.
What an idiot.

A New Fan

I am a 30 something man who believe it or not I was not a Trek fan till I saw Insurrection. That movie triggered something in me in 1998 and my love for Trek has ever grown since. I just started realizing, after reading this message board in great expectation to Nemesis over the past year how much people really did not like that movie (I guess to each their own). I am
now caught up on all Trek movies and catching up on TNG though the DVD
releases, and can't wait for DS9 in 2003 and Voyager in 2004. I also enjoy
Enterprise it makes my Wednesday nights!
I saw Nemesis on the 13th here in Tampa, FL to a packed house. I must say
that it was a very good movie. I feel that overall it was a fan's film,
my wife who I had to drag to the movie house enjoyed the movie, but was at times lost and had to have parts that only fans would understand explained.
Again my overall feeling was that the movie was great. I am dying to see
it again some time this week. I hope for great success and a long future for
this franchise I now love more than ever.
P.S. Could someone explain to me why there is so much hate and discontent
towards Berman? Is there a book or docudrama I can digest to get caught
up????
My Star Trek Movie Rating:
1. Wrath of Khan
2. Nemesis
3. Generations
4. First Contact
5. Undiscovered Country
6. Insurrection
7. Voyage Home
8. Search for Spock
9. Final Frontier
10. Motion Picture

Although I had a couple MAJOR quips with Nemesis, it wasn't a BAD movie by any measure. I would even place it above mediocre. Maybe average to the lower end of good. But in any case, it's good to see that Paramound isn't totally throwing in the towel. I do hope that they reorganize the production staff, but at least they're not SO dissapointed that they consider Trek to be dead. Good for them.

I've seen the movie twice, and plan on seeing it at least once more. I bet if they fired Berman, fans would make sure that the film made a profit.

Hmm

"The numbers were in the range we were expecting" they say. I wonder what the range was: $15-$35 mill? :)
It's good that it appears that Paramount actually is perceiving this film as well received by the fans. I'd say after such comments that Trek XI is near definite, but exactly what crew would be a part of the adventure is certainly not.
Once again, perhaps the idiotic release date is a safety net for the movie franchise. There's no guarantee it would have done much better away from the competition (although I'm pretty darn sure it would have), but perhaps the gamble was taken to get lucky with the LOTR crowd. And, if that didn't work, then the lower box-office results would simply be discarded as the result of the poor timing.
From the tone that they claim to have toward the numbers, I'd say Berman is probably in a safe position right now (too bad really...). All the fingers will point at the date, and not Berman, even though he actually did fairly decent this time around. :)

"More importantly, fans liked it, and we think that will carry it through the holidays."
I've not seen the movie myself, but from what I've read on the internet, the majority of fans find it a major disappointment, and I will be going into the cinema expecting to see a mediocre movie. If it's anything more, it will be a pleasant surprise.
