Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

Dept: Deep Space Nine
STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE actor René Auberjonois recently spoke in an appearance in Las Vegas about the third TREK series and his character, the shapeshifter 'Odo'. German site TrekZone.de has published a transcript from the panel and supplied TrekWeb with some English excerpts:
Question: How did you react when learning that Odo would return to his people?
René Auberjonois: I had never doubted that. It was just a question of [the] time when this would happen. Especially at the end of the show when the big war erupted, it was the best development for Odo, that was possible, to serve as a "tool for peace."
Question: Was the romantic relationship between Odo and Kira planed?
René Auberjonois: No that probably happened by coincidence. Nana and I didn't like the idea too much. We knew each other for a pretty long time, and of course it was fun acting together, but we had to do what the writers told us.
In the episode "Necessary Evil", where I act as if I were Colombo, Odo realizes at the end that it was Kira who betrayed him years ago during the Cardassian occupation. I think in the last scene there was a camera setting that showed Odo looking disappointed at Kira. However, in addition to this there was a close up of both of us recorded. When we watched it the following day, it seemed through the way the director recorded it, as if Odo had a crush on Kira. Of course that spread around the whole set very quickly and the authors had something new to work with. Quite a few people probably liked it, but that had to be people who also liked "The phantom of the opera" (smiling). First they played with the idea, but then they dropped it and brought some other awesome dudes for Kira.
Question: How did the thing with Odo and Lwaxana Troi go? Why was it never continued to develop?
René Auberjonois: I respect our authors, who for seven years continuously provided us with good stories and helped DS9 to become a successful legend, very much. The Lwaxana-Troi stories are similar to all the other stories with reappearing characters: you only should let them appear if you have a really good story for them, and not just because you can do it. I guess there just wasn't a good occasion anymore and I think it is better that way, to not do it all, instead of making mediocre or bad episodes.
Question: You are a very welcomed guest at conventions. Do you remember your first appearance at a con?
René Auberjonois: Of course. That was a pretty big surprise back then. Colm Meaney, who as an "Next Generation" actor already had some con experience, asked me to replace him at a convention in Chicago because he had other stuff to do. Back then we already finished some episodes but the show hadn't aired. I had my doubts about if the audience actually would know who I am, but Colm scattered my doubts with the words, that the fans are friendly and most of all are curiously about DS9. Nevertheless I was pretty nervous. While waiting for my appearance backstage I heard how another guest, Majel [Roddenberry], dealt with the fans. I realized that quite a few intelligent questions were asked. When it finally was my turn, I already was a bit more relaxed. However, I stammered a little when a fan asked me about my role as Colonel West because I didn't know what he wanted right away. I just remembered the old series "Wild Wild West" and I didn't work there. I had to be "enlightened," that my appearance in "Star Trek VI: The undiscovered Country" was meant. I already had forgotten about it, because my scenes were almost all cut in the final version and only were included in a longer VHS version. It is pretty amazing what details the fans know....

This is news? I thought it was common knowledge that it was the chemistry between the actors that inspired the writers to come up with the Odo/Kira romance. Oh, and neither actor ever really liked the direction the relationship between their characters went...and I have to agree with them.
DS9 was a great show (my favorite of all Treks in fact), but I always thought most of the varried romantic pairings seemed forced and phony (except for Sisko and Kassidy).

Is it known if the DVD will be a director's edition? The comments about the West character made me remember the VHS was jacked up from the theatrical release.
