Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
In its third weekend in release, STAR TREK NEMESIS is expected to have made nearly $4,125,000 according to early studio estimates posted at Box Office Mojo. This is a 6.6% decline from last weekend, when the film also took in just over $4 million, a 76% drop from its opening weekend December 13-15. Taking the eleventh spot for the weekend (#8 last week), the grand total for NEMESIS now stands at $33,917,000.
By now the tenth STAR TREK feature has been reduced to 2,642 theatres, compared to its first two weeks at 2,711. The top film this weekend was LORD OF THE RINGS with $48,925,000, followed by the Leonardo di Caprio film CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and its $30,040,000 debut. NEMESIS's very personal nemesis, MAID IN MANHATTAN, maintained the fourth spot in its third week of release, raking in $13,000,000, improving by 12.5% on last week.
NEMESIS is now on track to come in at $40-45 million for its domestic total, the lowest of any STAR TREK film. International grosses and home video sales next year should be able recoup most of the film's $60-65 million budget and $35-40 million marketing campaign.

"Nemesis" gaining some strength?

I went to see "Nemesis" for the second time this evening, taking along my little brother who is an occasional Trek fan. Needless to say, I was expecting to walk into an empty theater and have our choice of seats. However, I was pleasantly surprised and almost shocked to see the 7:30pm showing more than 75% full! The audience was a mixed group of all ages, so maybe the final nail hasn't been put into the coffin quite yet for the franchise.
For a second viewing, the movie hadn't lost any of its appeal for me, and was just as enjoyable the second go-round. I really do believe that of the four movies with the Next Generation crew, this one rates right up there with "First Contact." Except for a few slow moments, "Nemesis" holds up well upon repeat showings. And more importantly, my 17yo brother seemed to enjoy it a lot more than he thought he would.
So at least here in sunny Tucson "Nemesis" seems to be holding its own!

This movie was lame, thats why its not doing good...Enterprise is fine

In 3 months, anyone who thought this film was good will start to say it wasn't. The same thing happened to Generations and Insurrection (I actually like Insurrection, myself).
Some of the obvious problems include: they forgot about what happened when they activated Lore, Data's death was foretold and wasn't very emotional when it happened, EVERY minor plot could have been erased in minutes with no bearing on the main plot - which makes it slow and boring.
Ok, that said, Trek is not dead yet, and I won't let it die just because a bad film was made (Trek survived ST5 didn't it?). It may seem like a low point, but its likely just temporary. Enterprise had a few great episodes this season, and is on track to be a great series. Just because viewers decline near the holidays is meaningless. Lets wait till January-February, I saw some notes on future epsisodes and they sound real good. Also, don't forget UPN isn't the hottest network out there, so its harder for them to advertise, which hurts enterprise too (i.e. if, for example, only 5 mil people watch buffy, only 5 mil know about the next trek episode).
The saddest part of Nemesis, though, is that they REALLY did try. They got big name writers and directors, and tried to include the whole cast. For effort I would say they get an A. But just because you have star players, doesn't mean you have a winning team (hehe RAMS, anyone?).
Personally, I think Frakes would have done a better job, since he's familiar with the fans. The main story was really quite good (though simplistic), but could have had a cloning is bad message or something like Alien 3. I think all the subplots killed the movie overall, since the flow was terrible.
BTW - I didn't know the Enterprise scanned for positronic signatures on planets they can't beam down to? Just like Spocks brother and the Nexus...rediculous ideas.
I am one of the 5 million viewers, and will reamin 1 for Enterprise. I even tell other people to check it out all the time. The 3rd episode (after minefield) was one of the best episodes of Trek in a VERY long time, they've had a bunch of real good ones too, and of course some that flop, but oh well, as a whole its still a good show.

I dont know what the marketing campaign was like for Nemesis in the US prior to the films release, but here in Australia it is nearly non-existant. Nemesis will be out here in a few weeks and as far as I have seen or heard there is very little advertising going on and any non-trek fans I speak to dont even know there is a new trek movie comming. Just go's to show why things fail....

Drumline has made more money

This is sad, but not unexpected, news. Steve's analysis is right on the money.
I don't see how Nemesis can be termed a success in any meaningful sense of word. Certainly it hasn't been and won't be a financial success. And although some fans have given Nemesis an enthusiastic reception, there is nothing in the movie that captures the imagination and gives one hope for better or more successful Star Trek movies in the future. Instead, the franchise's movie future is in doubt.
Star Trek needs fresh ideas. Fresh ideas will rekindle the franchise and our optimism about Trek's future.
My compliments to Steve, he's done an excellent job with this site.

Nemesis Gross

I heard many years ago that you should use the following formula to determine the profitability of a film:
1. The studio splits the box office with the theatre, so multiply the production cost by two.
2. Then add the advertising and marketing costs.
3. This is the break-even point.
4. Take half of the box office after the break even point and you have the net profit.
(I realize this may be completely wrong)
Using this formula, Nemesis is in big trouble.
The break even point would be at around $160 million, assuming a budget of $65 million and advertising of $33 million.
Nemesis should have been released at a different time, perhaps in early November.

Steve,
I applaud you for changing your tune this weekend over last regarding Nemesis' box office receipts. At an estimated $33 million so far, it already has made enough to recoup marketing costs (also $33 million), and with the DVD and international profits, there really should be no reason why Paramount will not only get its production costs back, but even make a tidy profit. Maybe after this the folks at Paramount will realize that profit can be made with Star Trek films and will thus start making another Trek film for release in several years...

I am suprised.....

I am surprised that the film only had a 6% drop. That means those people who saw trek the first weekend, then saw LOTR, is now going back to see it again. Plus some people did want to wait and spend money to see LOTR first. If you not a trek fan and go to the movies once and awhile, you are going to see LOTR first for sure. That is the problem with the release timing. I think Nemesis may have some legs in it to make more money if they don't yank it to fast. The first of the year is rough on good flicks coming out so good word of mouth is going to bring in more to see the film. Many have not seen it yet. This film has had wonderful reviews and Cinemascore polled people to great delight:
Male Female
Under 21 A+ A-
21 to 34 B+ A-
35 and Up B+ A-
Thats going to help it. I am going to see again first of the year. I thought it was a wonderful flick and I am ready for a new crew though. Its a great bookending for the TNG crew.
